Marcelo’s leg had healed?
How could he now compare himself to Marcelo, or make Renee regret her choice?
Catherine’s face drained of color as she worried about the surveillance footage. She hoped it hadn't captured her involvement.
Vivian was overcome with regret and jealousy. She realized that her actions had led to Marcelo revealing his recovery to protect Renee, his wife in name only.
The guests remained silent, their internal shock preventing them from whispering in such a tense situation. The only sound was the attendants cleaning up the broken glass.
Luke, continuing the ruse, brought a wheelchair over to Marcelo. "Sir, your leg isn't fully healed. You shouldn't stand for too long. Sit down quickly." His eyes subtly conveyed a message, remember, recovery wasn't instantaneous. Keep up the act.
Marcelo obliged and sat back in the wheelchair.
"The surveillance footage is here," announced an attendant, having fetched it with remarkable speed.
Marcelo reviewed the footage on the tablet. When he raised his head, his icy gaze landed on Catherine, chilling her to the core.
“No, it wasn't me!" Catherine blurted out in a knee-jerk reaction. But as she realized the undeniable truth in the surveillance footage, she quickly shifted her story. "I just lost my balance. It was an accident. I didn't mean to hit the table!"
Renee was unaware of Catherine’s presence near the champagne tower since she was out of her line of sight. Now, she was convinced that Catherine had intended the incident.
Marcelo, however, was uninterested in Catherine’s excuses.
“I'm giving you a chance to apologize," he said sternly. He pointed to another champagne tower and instructed Catherine, "Go stand there and pull the table yourself."
His demand wasn't unreasonable. He wanted Catherine to understand the potential harm she had nearly caused Renee.
The room was abuzz with condemnation.
Marcelo’s imposing presence made the air feel heavy, pressing down on Catherine with the expectation of a convincing explanation.
Desperate, Catherine turned to the members of the King family. "Andrew, please help me. Gary, Felicia, please..." she pleaded, seeking their support in her moment of crisis.
She cleverly placed a hand on her belly, a strategic move. In the past, Gary and Felicia might not have been concerned with her fate, but now, the stakes were different. What Catherine carried was their future grandchild.
“Marcelo, today is a day for celebration, my father's birthday. Let's not have any unpleasantness," Gary said, attempting to calm the situation. "Let's keep this matter low-key."
Paul, now advanced in years, was resting in another room, away from the commotion of the banquet hall.
“That's right!" Felicia nodded in agreement, a forced smile on her face. She displayed an unusual level of courtesy towards Marcelo. She then urged Catherine, "Apologize to your sister immediately."
