Chapter 216 From his girlfriend
Vivian stared in shock, struggling to contain her mounting anger.
Renee simply shrugged, unconcerned with Vivian’s reaction. She returned upstairs, feeling triumphant.
Marcelo was there waiting, which lifted her spirits further.
As she approached, he opened his arms welcomingly.
Renee, initially reluctant, decided to indulge him as he had initiated the embrace.
She leaped into his arms, wrapping hers around his neck and standing on her toes to plant a kiss on his chin.
“This is your reward, because I’m feeling happy!” she declared, her eyes twinkling like stars, captivating enough to mesmerize him.
“That’s it? Doesn’t seem heartfelt enough,” He remarked, playfully gesturing towards his lips.
Renee leaned in, her breath carrying her unique scent as she whispered teasingly near his ear, “I was going to kiss your Adam’s apple, but…” She flashed a mischievous smile. “Marcelo, are you sure you can restrain yourself and avoid…you know?”
The party was still underway, and they were surrounded by sharp–eyed guests.
Any boner he might have in his pants, would surely be noticed!
Marcelo muttered a curse under his breath and gently pinched the back of her neck.
“You’re in for it tonight.”
Upon Renee and Marcelo’s return to the festivity, it was evident the party was in high gear.
No sooner had they seated themselves than Wyatt spearheaded a group, eager to see them partake in the merriment.
“Let’s raise a toast! Marcelo, Renee, this one’s for you. Here’s to eternal love and aging gracefully together!
With an infectious enthusiasm, Wyatt distributed whiskey glasses to both Renee and Marcelo.
Renee eyed her glass with a mix of reluctance and apprehension, debating whether to politely refuse or risk the intoxicating effects.
Marcelo, sensing her hesitation, gently took the glass from her grasp, promptly finished his own, and then proceeded to empty Renee as well.
“I’ll take hers,” he declared, a protective note in his voice.

Renee experienced a fleeting warmth, as though the spirit of the drink had metaphorically touched her heart, sparking a sweet euphoria.
The surrounding young men, ever keen to fuel the excitement, burst into applause.
“Incredible! Mr. King truly knows how to care of his wife!”
In the midst of the celebration, Wyatt couldn’t resist joining in, offering another round of toasts with two more glasses for the couple.
“To Marcelo and Renee! May your life together be harmonious and may you soon welcome a new member to your family!”
“Thanks, Wyatt, but this drink…” Renee began, only for Marcelo to intercept Wyatt’s glasses, swiftly drinking on their behalf once more.
“Much appreciated,” he said, confidently placing the emptied glasses upside down to signify completion.
Then, Marcelo requested a waiter to bring juice for Renee, making it clear he preferred she abstain from alcohol.
Daniel observed this protective gesture with a raised eyebrow, evidently approving of Marcelo’s considerate approach towards Renee.
Damian, witnessing Marcelo’s diligent care, felt a complex mixture of emotions. It was part obstruction, part genuine joy, an inner conflict that led him to question his own feelings.
At that moment, Wyatt nudged him, hinting towards Marcelo, “Won’t you offer a toast to your friend and your former classmate’s marriage?”
How did his good old classmate become his older friend’s wife?
Internally sighing at the turn of events, Damian lifted his glass, “To Renee and Marcelo, congratulations!”
Marcelo paused before accepting. “Sincerely?”
“Absolutely, with all sincerity!” Damian responded, the unspoken condition hanging in the air. As long as Marcelo could treat Renee well, he would sincerely wish them happiness forever.
The underlying message went unnoticed by the others.
Renee, catching on to the moment, turned to Marcelo. “Damian and I are on amicable terms now, so he surely wishes us well, right?”
Damian, tasting the sharp sting of jealousy, mustered a smile. “Without a doubt!”
Wyatt had to stifle a chuckle at the scene.
Upon his younger brother’s return, he clapped him on the back. He asked with a hint of mockery, “Have

you accepted defeat yet?”
“You, you, you…
Stammering, Damian could hardly muster a coherent reply.
Wyatt, seizing the moment to tease, commented, “Had you acknowledged your feelings sooner, perhaps she would have been your wife.”
Facing his brother’s taunts, Damian shot back with a glare. “Do you take pleasure in my suffering?”
To which Wyatt dryly responded, “Isn’t that the family tradition?”
Damian was rendered speechless.
At least Renee remained oblivious to this ordeal.
As the evening progressed, the initial wariness the guests held towards Marcelo dissipated, inspired by his genial exchanges with Jason and the Moore brothers, and perhaps a bit emboldened by the alcohol, they began to warmly engage.
“Mr. King, we extend our belated congratulations on your union with Miss Hudson! Ah, pardon me, Mrs. King now! A toast to you and your bride!” a guest exclaimed with enthusiasm.
Marcelo responded with a wry smile, accepting two glasses and drinking with ease, evidently also consuming Renee’s share.
The others gradually came forward with boldness.
Over time, the guests began to notice that Marcelo graciously accepted every toast that wished them
happiness.
Marcelo took it upon himself to handle any drink intended for Renee.
This delighted the spectators. The typically reserved Mr. King was partaking in their festivities, and some of them even entertained the idea of getting him pleasantly intoxicated.
Nearby, a group of young socialites, friends of Alyssa, whispered among themselves, “They say Mr. King is usually detached and pays no mind to women, yet he cherishes Renee as if she were a rare gem. What makes her so special?”
“Lower your voices! If that girl hears us, she’ll have our heads!” Alyssa cautioned them as she gritted her
teeth.
She found it hard to believe that after her brief departure, Renee returned unfazed by Vivian’s presence, still in good spirits.
“Marcelo, perhaps you should drink less,” Renee suggested softly, tugging at his sleeve.

She had lost track of how many drinks he had consumed, the empty glasses in front of him were swiftly replaced with fresh ones.
