Chapter 214 Indirect ties
“I don’t know everyone,” Marcelo said and shrugged it off.
“Okay! Wyatt, since it’s come up, why not do it tonight?” Renee leaned in closer to the phone and suggested.
Wyatt’s mood lifted at hearing Renee, “Renee, you’re there with Marcelo? Perfect, I’ll take care of it, let’s make it a celebration for you both!”
Wyatt hung up, ready to organize the event.
Renee caught a glimpse of Marcelo’s expression, which practically said, “Celebrate, my ass“.
But once the idea was out there, he had no way to retract it.
This was the first occasion he was escorting Renee as Mrs. King after their relationship became known among their social circle. He couldn’t allow anyone to belittle her.
They decided on Heart Island for the venue, booking the entire second floor of the clubhouse.
Renee and Marcelo arrived fashionably late.
Approaching the hall’s entrance, they found a considerable number of people already inside.
“All these guests?” Marcelo asked, his brow slightly furrowed.
Wyatt, feeling a bit uneasy, said, “I didn’t mean to invite so many. But when they claimed to be Renee’s old friends, how could I say no?”
Renee chuckled and said, “I didn’t even realize I had so many old friends. Do acquaintances count as old
friends too?”
She had once held the title of First Lady of Bellbank university, and her acquaintances spanned the
entire city’s elite families, too numerous to name.
“Let’s go inside,” Marcelo said. Seemingly unfazed, he led Renee by the hand into the venue.
Having a large crowd also had its perks.
Starting today, it would be clear that Renee was taken.
Wyatt observed Marcelo holding Renee’s hand, as if she were a precious child, and couldn’t help but feel
moved.
When Marcelo showed affection, it was genuinely heartfelt.
“Congratulations!”

“Renee, you hid it so well!”
“Here’s to a lifetime of joy, and may you be blessed with a child soon!”
“Is Mr. King’s leg all better now? That’s wonderful!”
“Mr. King and Ms. Hudson, you two are clearly perfect for each other!”
As Renee and Marcelo made their entrance, they were showered with well–wishes from every side.
Marcelo answered with a nod, “My wife is gentle and kind, and please take good care of her in the future.”
What he really meant was that his wife was soft–hearted and could be taken advantage of, so if anyone really dared to do so, he wouldn’t hesitate to get revenge.
Everyone fell silent. What did he say?
Gentle, and kind?
Was Marcelo really talking about Renee here?
Wasn’t she the one who got into that bar fight at Rich Bar?
And she was also the one who, with Sarah, could shut anyone down before they even had a chance to
speak?
Despite the recent portrayal of Renee as somewhat deserving of sympathy, had she truly faced any unfair
treatment? Not at all!
“Renee!”
A playful shout stood out amidst the crowd.
Susanna, linking arms with Daniel, gave Renee a playful wink.
“Mr. Lambert couldn’t wait to get here once he heard what was happening,” Wyatt leaned over to whisper
to Marcelo.
Marcelo just nodded.
It was probably Susanna who was eager to come, not Daniel.
Daniel pampered his not–so–wise fiancée endlessly, showing a lack of principles.
Marcelo, who usually kept to himself and didn’t mingle much with this crowd, mainly conversed with a select few, including
Wyatt, the Stephens brothers, Levy, who just returned, and some other family heirs from their respective families.

Susanna pulled Renee aside for a chat, and soon a group of socialites gathered around to praise Renee.
“Renee, it’s been ages, but you haven’t changed a bit, still stunning!”
“Ms. Rayne, you’re making me blush. I think you’re the beauty here.”
“Renee, I had this wedding present made just for you by a craftsman in Gwylia!”
“Thank you so much, Ms. Moore. That’s incredibly generous of you.”
“Renee, you’re incredible! Now even Light has a close connection with you!”
“Ms. Evans, your paintings stand out as the best among our generation; I can’t accept your compliments.”
One kind word followed another, ranging from cheers for her wedding to personal compliments for Renee. She handled the conversation with ease, making Susanna look on in amazement.
After Renee finished interacting with so many people, Susanna felt compelled to whisper, “Renee, do you know all these people? You’re amazing!”
“No,” Renee replied, her mind on her ties with the Lambert family. She gave a piece of advice, “I just need to remember which family they’re from and their status. I call you Susanna, not Miss Todd, and that makes all the difference.”
She used nicknames for friends.
And reserve Miss So–and–So for formal occasions.
Renee knew the social rules well. When it came out that she wasn’t really a Hudson family by blood, her so–called friends ignored her, making things worse. Now that she was seen as Marcelo’s wife, they all
wanted to reconnect.
“I get it.” Susanna said, “Such fake friendship and the way social climbers act!”
Renee burst into laughter.
Her laughter was cut short by a sarcastic comment from the crowd.
“Well, we certainly can’t keep up with Miss Hudson! Just six months ago, she was engaged to Andrew, and now she’s quickly married to his cousin. Such tactics…We’re not in the same league!”
Alyssa, walking closely with her fiancé, smirked as she passed Renee.
The room turned uncomfortably quiet, with only the occasional men’s laughter in the background intensifying the silence.
Everyone knew about Renee’s history with the King family but had kept quiet about it.
Mentioning it now was clearly meant to hurt her.

The women, who had been congratulating her warmly moments before, now kept silent, offering Renee no support when she needed it most.
“Is this really about tactics?”
Susanna’s voice broke the silence, her honest confusion clear.
Everyone looked her way.
Susanna went on, “This is clearly about beauty and charm. Without Renee’s stunning beauty, her flawless demeanor, her smarts, her accomplishments, and her skills in dance and music, tactics wouldn’t make a difference. Mr. King can see for himself, after all.”
Her comment suggested that anyone who believed Renee succeeded through scheming was missing the point.
