She was the kind of girl you liked on sight—gentle, with a soft presence that put people at ease.
“Nice to meet you, Alicia,” Pamela greeted politely, her manners impeccable.
Alicia smiled at her. “I’ve heard about the Edwards family. Your brother is quite the well-known young CEO in Harboridge City, and your family leads the city’s construction industry. Word is, some of the top architects in the country work for your brother.”
Pamela gave a modest smile. “I heard you studied architecture as well. My brother’s coming to visit me tomorrow. If you’d like, I can introduce you. He’s quite knowledgeable about design.”
Pamela was clever, easy to be around, never exhausting the conversation.
Alicia had barely finished complimenting Connor before Pamela proposed the introduction, saving Alicia the trouble of asking. It was thoughtful and considerate.
Alicia found herself liking Pamela even more. She smiled warmly. “That sounds great. It’s fate that we’ve met so far from home, so let me make sure you feel welcome.”
Tyrone had warned Alicia before he left: stay away from Connor. He’s not as simple as he seems.
But Alicia’s curiosity got the better of her.
She wanted to know for herself whether the Edwards family was ambitious, maybe even calculating behind the scenes.
“I’m going to take a shower. Easton, could you show Pamela around?” Alicia said before heading upstairs.
Easton nodded and started leading Pamela on a tour of the house. They’d barely gone a few steps when Winnie emerged from her room. She froze at the sight of Easton, glanced at Pamela, and instinctively turned away, trying to slip back inside unnoticed.
“This is Winnie,” Easton introduced her smoothly.
Winnie managed an awkward smile. “Hi, I’m Winnie.”
“Hi, Winnie, I’m Pamela.” Pamela greeted her with an easy smile.
