Tyrone’s Apartment
When Tyrone walked in, the comforting aroma of dinner filled the place.
Alicia might look delicate on the outside, but deep down, she was stubborn and resilient. Being with Tyrone gave her a sense of safety, so she always threw herself into making their life together as good as it could be.
She’d grown up that way—starved for affection, focusing all her energy on the people she cared about. But the more she loved, the more terrified she was of losing them.
“Honey!” The moment she saw Tyrone, Alicia set the plates and silverware down and hurried over, wrapping her arms around him.
Tyrone looked at her, concern flickering across his face. Maybe… maybe Clayton was right. Maybe he’d protected Alicia too much, and it was holding her back.
After all, Alicia was destined to return to the White family and take over the family business. Sooner or later, she’d have to learn to stand on her own.
“Alicia…” Tyrone started, but trailed off.
Alicia gazed up at him, her chest tightening with unease.
She had a feeling something was wrong—she always did—but she clung to denial for comfort, too scared to face the truth.
“Is something going on?” Alicia finally mustered the courage to ask.
“You know as well as I do that someone’s been scheming against the Lynch family,” Tyrone said quietly, leading her to sit at the table with him. “The old man made a mistake before he passed, leaving Lynch Corporation’s shares to Easton. Now, Easton’s got a target on his back…”
Alicia’s mind flashed to that girl, Lena. It was obvious now—someone had set their sights on Easton.
“It’s the same for me. All those years of the old man’s fortune, left to me—a nobody with no real power—it’s like sitting on a ticking time bomb. These people don’t want to see me succeed, but they’re all watching, waiting for me to slip. If I don’t spend that money, and something happens to me, it could mean disaster for you and the kids.”
Tyrone gripped Alicia’s hand tightly, afraid his next words would scare her.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
“You haven’t told her yet, have you?” Vincent asked quietly.
Tyrone was about to be in real danger. He needed to be ready—and Alicia needed to be ready, too.
“Come in,” Tyrone said in a low voice, letting Vincent into the living room.
Alicia snapped out of her daze and stood to greet their guest. But as soon as she saw who it was, her face darkened.
She eyed Vincent warily. “What are you doing here?”
“Alicia,” Tyrone said softly, “I’m working on a deal with Lawson & Co. If it goes through, whoever’s after us will come at me with everything they’ve got. We need to be prepared. Vincent can be trusted.”
Alicia took a shaky step back, fear flickering in her eyes.
Her cheeks flushed, eyes stinging. She understood all too well what Tyrone meant by “come at me with everything they’ve got.”
