Emily stared at Lilian in shock. She never expected this girl to deduce her relationship with Ivy so easily.
They were indeed cousins, but Emily wasn't acting out of a sense of justice for her cousin. She was acting for herself.
Back when she first met Cameron through Ivy, she had fallen for him instantly. However, because of her cousin, she had been forced to bury those feelings deep inside. When the two eventually broke up, she had secretly rejoiced, thinking her chance had finally come. She never imagined Elsie would beat her to it. The realization was unbearable.
That was why she had posted those threads online. She wanted to destroy Elsie's reputation and force her to back down out of shame.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. I have things to do. I’m leaving." Emily turned abruptly and hurried off in the opposite direction.
The onlookers watched her flee, exchanging confused glances as doubt began to cloud their previous certainty about the scandal.
Isabelle gave Lilian a thumbs-up as they watched Emily’s retreating figure. "You’re amazing. Two sentences and you sent that woman running with her tail between her legs. You’re officially my idol."
Lilian gave Isabelle a playful, reproachful look. "Your idols change too fast. In the single semester I’ve known you, you’ve had at least five."
"I'm just keeping up with the times," Isabelle replied righteously. "A person can't stay stagnant, or life gets boring."
"Fine. Just let me know when you trade me in for someone else," Lilian joked. She then turned to Elsie. "Shall we go, our resident heroine? I promised to buy you lunch today."
Elsie looked hesitant. "Maybe we should wait for another time? Or we could go somewhere off-campus."
