Lillian was momentarily taken aback, unsure of his angle. “I am,” she replied steadily. “Is there a problem?”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” George demanded, his voice rising in anger.
Lillian looked at his seething expression and let out a cold laugh. “That’s a bit rich, don’t you think? Did you ever bother to ask me?
“Besides, when you sent your people to investigate me, did they really fail that spectacularly? My engagement is common knowledge in Dracovia. It’s not exactly a secret I needed to go out of my way to disclose.
“And even if I had told you, would that have stopped you from abducting my master and me?”
George stared at her, his eyes dark with resentment. “At the very least, I would have thought twice before laying a finger on you.”
Lillian’s lips curled into a knowing smile. “Given how furious you look, I take it my fiancé has done something you’re finding a bit difficult to handle?”
“You seem quite pleased with yourself, Ms. Harrington,” George said, his voice dropping to a dangerous level.
“Naturally.” Lillian’s smile widened with genuine satisfaction. “Anything that makes your life miserable makes me happy. And knowing my fiancé, once someone crosses his line, he makes sure they live to regret ever being born. Unfortunately for you, I happen to be the one line he never allows anyone to cross.
“If I were you, I’d release my master and me right now. Otherwise, your selfish little obsession might just bring the entire Mildew Corp crashing down around you.”
George let out a chilling laugh. “You have a lot of confidence in yourself. Are you so sure a man like that would risk everything to fight us to the end? In a man’s world, profit usually outweighs everything else. Once I offer him enough incentive, I doubt he’ll keep throwing his weight around for the sake of one woman.”
Lillian shrugged with total nonchalance. “By all means, try it. See if he’ll trade me for whatever ‘incentives‘ you think you have. It’ll be a good test for me too. He once told me he’d burn down his empire for my sake–I’d love to know if he was actually telling the truth.”
George’s gaze turned predatory. “Aren’t you afraid he actually will abandon you?” “Why should I be?” Lillian countered. “If he chooses profit over me, then I should thank you

for showing me his truc colors. But if your little negotiation fails, then believe me when I say the Mildew dynasty is finished. And you, Mr. George, will pay a price more painful than you can imagine. Don’t think for a second that I’m exaggerating.”
“Is that so?” George’s face was a mask of malice. Then we’ll just have to wait and see.” He stood up and stormed out of the room, his fury palpable.
