When the group entered the drawing room, they found a man already seated on the sofa with two associates standing behind him.

Arlo forced a smile. “Mr. Whitmore, your visit truly graces my humble home.” He then turned to the butler. “Hurry, bring some tea.”

“Right away, sir,” the butler replied.

Sebastian’s smile was icy. “You are too kind, Arlo, but let’s skip the tea. I came today specifically because I want an explanation.”

Arlo’s expression immediately soured into a mask of confusion. “I see. And what exactly do you need an explanation for?”

“Yesterday, George abducted my fiancée and has yet to release her,” Sebastian said, his voice dropping an octave. “I want to know exactly what the Mildew family intends by this.”

Arlo’s eyes turned cold and predatory. “I would watch my tongue if I were you, Mr. Whitmore. Without evidence, I could sue you for defamation.”

Sebastian glanced at Foster. “Give the files to Arlo.”

Foster stepped forward and handed the documents to Arlo.

Arlo opened the folder and scanned the contents. His brow furrowed deeper with every page. By the time he reached the end, he was visibly shaken. “Your fiancée is Leonard’s apprentice?”

“Precisely.” A dangerous glint flashed in Sebastian’s obsidian eyes. “I assume you are well aware of what transpired between George and Leonard twenty years ago. Now, two decades later, he’s using the same old tricks–threatening Leonard to lure my fiancée into a kidnapping. So, I’ll ask again: what is the Mildew family’s angle?”

Arlo stared at him. “George and Leonard have a history, yes, but you cannot conclude he kidnapped her based solely on that.”

Sebastian sneered. “Ivan takes orders from Gray, and Gray is a lapdog for the Mildew family. George sent him to investigate my fiancée. What was the motive? Don’t tell me it was merely out of curiosity.”

Standing to the side, Phineas looked on with unrestrained glee. “So George has a habit of kidnapping other men’s fiancées? Don’t tell me he’s got a crush on the girl. Tsk, tsk. Now that’s a headline even more explosive than mine.”

“I think it would be better to call George here so we can talk face–to–face,” Sebastian said with a chilling smile. “I don’t have the patience to wait for an investigation. Besides, I don’t think you have the time to conduct one.”

Arlo frowned. “What is that supposed to mean?”

Foster held up a tablet for Arlo to see.
