**Chapter 656: A Sudden Turn of Events**
Lilian’s face was a mask of discomfort, a stark contrast to her usual composure. An unsettling sensation coursed through her, as if the wound on her hand had a mind of its own, throbbing with increasing intensity.
Noah, keenly observant, caught sight of her pallor and immediately inquired, “Lilian, what’s the matter? You look absolutely dreadful.”
The tension in the air was palpable; the others around them began to exchange worried glances, sensing that something was amiss with her.
It was Mr. Jorge who broke the silence, his voice grave. “Could it be related to the injury on your hand? That man was teeming with toxins. It’s entirely possible that his blood entered your wound when he scratched you.”
Lilian’s gaze drifted to the back of her hand, where five angry scratches marred her skin. Though they had ceased bleeding, the crimson hue and swelling were alarming, and the skin surrounding the wounds was beginning to take on a sinister shade of black.
Noah’s expression darkened as he took in the sight. “Lilian, is it serious?”
With a hesitant shake of her head, she replied, “I’m not certain.” Deep inside, she felt a flicker of conviction that her body was unharmed; if a neurotoxin had infiltrated her system, she would undoubtedly sense it. So, what was the source of this inexplicable pain?
At that moment, a sleek sports car roared to a halt at the foot of the steps, tires screeching against the pavement. A man leapt out, his face etched with concern as he rushed toward her. “Lilian, are you alright?”
Just as she was about to assure him of her well-being, darkness enveloped her vision, and she felt herself teetering backward, succumbing to the abyss.
“Lilian!” Sebastian’s voice pierced through the chaos as he dashed forward, catching her in his arms just before she hit the ground.
Gasps of shock rippled through the onlookers.
Even the media reporters, who were usually unfazed, found themselves bewildered. Just moments ago, she had seemed perfectly fine; how could she have collapsed so suddenly?
Noah hurried to her side, urgency in his voice. “Let me check.” He pressed his fingers against Lilian’s wrist, searching for a pulse.
