Lilian slowly opened her eyes and studied her reflection for a moment. Once she was satisfied, she stood up, shed her smock, and turned to face the group crowded at the door.
When Peter and his crew saw the girl standing there, their eyes went from lustful to pure terror. They knew exactly who she was.
Lilian’s name had been plastered all over the news lately. She was the talk of the city, and even if they didn’t care about the business world, her face was unmistakable.
Lilian walked toward Winona with a calm, predatory grace. “I have to hand it to you, Winona. A lot can change in a few days. You’ve certainly moved up in the world since leaving Skyreach Group. I suppose you think being a C–list hack is an upgrade.”
Winona’s face turned a violent shade of red. If she hadn’t known who Lilian was, she might have tried to talk back. But now that the truth was staring her in the face, she didn’t have the guts to open her mouth. She knew one wrong move would get her blacklisted from the industry for good.
Lilian watched her squirm and let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten your old boss already.”
A heavy silence fell over the room. Peter was drenched in a cold sweat, his earlier bravado completely gutted.
“I… I am so sorry, Ms. Lilian,” Winona stammered, her voice cracking. “We had no idea it was you. Please, don’t hold it against us. We didn’t know.”
Lilian gave her a look of pure ice. “You don’t work for me anymore, so save your breath. But here’s some free advice: stop acting like you own the place. Eventually, you’re going to run into someone who will actually break you.”
She brushed past the trembling woman without a second glance. As Lilian walked away, Winona’s knees finally gave out and she nearly collapsed.
By the time Lilian reached the studio, everything was set. The crew was on their best behavior, treating her with the kind of deference usually reserved for royalty.
Once the cameras were ready, the host turned to the lens with a practiced, charming smile. “Welcome back to our channel. I don’t think our next guest needs an introduction. She is the woman everyone in Kingston is talking about, the Chairwoman of Skyreach Group. Please welcome Ms. Lilian.”
Lilian stepped onto the stage with effortless confidence. She was wearing a simple black dress, forgoeing flashy jewelry for a classic watch that signaled power and sophistication. Under the harsh studio lights, she looked absolutely flawless.
“Thank you so much for joining us, Ms. Lilian,” the host said once they were settled.
