It was just like him. Even in this life, her teacher was thinking only of her best interests. But most of what she knew, she had learned from him in her past life. How could he possibly not be worthy of being her master?
Emotions churned within her. Looking at the silver in his hair, she shook her head firmly. “Teacher, I have no intention of finding anyone else. You are the only master I will ever acknowledge.”
Her words left Bruno feeling both helpless and deeply touched. He sighed with a smile. “Alright, alright, we can discuss this later. Your—ahem, for now, Mrs. Austin is fine. When she heard you were coming, she rushed to make her specialty dishes. You must try them and see if you like them.”
Anastasia turned to Mrs. Austin, her voice softening into an affectionate tone. “Of course I’ll like them. I’ve heard all about your amazing cooking.” In her last life, Mrs. Austin had cooked for her countless times.
Mrs. Austin couldn’t help but laugh. For some reason, she had felt an instant, inexplicable closeness to this girl. “How can you know you’ll like it if you haven’t even tasted it?” she teased, leading Anastasia to the dining room.
“Is he not home?” Anastasia asked, referring to their young son, who, in this life, had not died young.
“Ethan is still at school,” Mrs. Austin replied. “He should be home soon. If you stay a little longer, you’ll get to meet him.”
Speaking of her son, Mrs. Austin felt a profound gratitude toward Anastasia. They had exhausted every possible treatment, and she had already been preparing for the worst when Anastasia appeared in their lives.
Tasting Mrs. Austin’s cooking again, Anastasia was so moved she nearly cried. She held back her tears and brought up the matter of her cousin’s apprenticeship.
