When Winni learned that Lauren had fallen sick right after their conversation, she took Juliet aside for a talk. She told her daughter to treat Lauren like a sister and stop trying to ostracize her. Juliet was devastated by the unfair accusation, but Winni, completely fooled by Lauren’s act, refused to believe her.
After that, whenever Juliet showed any interest in medicine, studying late into the night to prove she was more deserving than Lauren, Winni would get angry. She accused Juliet of trying to get back at Lauren on Anastasia’s behalf, calling her immature and petty.
This pattern repeated itself several times. Lauren would even approach her with a pained expression, pleading with her to stop making things difficult, claiming she just wanted to be a good sister.
Juliet was furious, but Lauren was a master manipulator. A child who grew up in an orphanage knew how to read people and play the victim far better than she did. The adults were all deceived, and any time Juliet tried to expose Lauren, they dismissed it as slander.
Eventually, she gave up. When it came time to choose a major for university, Lauren, likely fearing she would choose medical school, subtly planted ideas in her parents’ heads, convincing them that Juliet’s true passion was acting. And so, she ended up in the performing arts program.
Having lost all hope of pursuing medicine, she didn't fight it. She thought that was just how her life would be. Until now, when Anastasia had looked at her with such gentle understanding and said:
“I know my Juliet has always wanted to be a doctor.”
Juliet could no longer hold back the years of frustration and sorrow, and she wept.
Anastasia suppressed a surge of rage, holding her cousin and comforting her. “Don’t cry. No one can tell you what to study anymore. If you want to study medicine, then you will. I’ll find you a teacher. You’ve heard of Bruno Austin, right? How would you like him to take you on as his student?”
Juliet’s sobs stopped abruptly. She stared at Anastasia, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Only then did she remember Anastasia’s offer to take her to Riverton.
But Bruno Austin… the legendary titan of the medical world? People would kill for a chance to even meet him, and Anastasia was talking about him taking her as a student?
