A shiver ran down Marcus’s spine. He turned his head slowly—
And there was Harrison, standing at the top of the stairs, a thundercloud of fury gathering over his head.
*Holy crap!*
Marcus sucked in a sharp breath, nearly fainting on the spot.
"Jealous wife, hmm?" Harrison asked, his smile devoid of any humor, his voice laced with ice.
Anastasia, her cheeks flushed, peeked out from behind him, giving Marcus a look that said it all. *Mr. Jackson must have some kind of cosmic bad luck to get caught every single time.*
"Harrison! I'm so sorry!" Marcus cried, looking ready to drop to his knees and beg for mercy.
Harrison’s voice was dripping with frost. "Get. Over. Here."
He turned and strode toward the study.
Seeing that Harrison’s anger had been completely redirected, Anastasia was deeply moved. She clasped her hands together in prayer as she watched Marcus go.
*Oh, Marcus, I always knew you were a good person. Don't worry, I'll pray for you!*
Marcus: "…"
"Ma'am, a call from Miss Juliet!" a maid called out, hurrying over with the phone Anastasia had dropped earlier.
Anastasia snapped back to reality and took the phone. "Hello? Juliet?" Her tone was light, assuming her cousin was just calling to chat.
But Juliet's voice was frantic. "Anastasia, Lauren's been hurt! She's at the hospital. Mom, Dad, and Grandpa have been told you did it, and Mom is demanding you come here and apologize…"
"Who's at the hospital?" Anastasia asked, sensing something was off.
"Grandpa, my parents, and my brother. Everyone but Grandma is here."
At that, Anastasia almost sneered. *What a coincidence.* The entire Brennan clan was present, except for the one person who actually cared for her.
She knew then, with absolute certainty, that Lauren was asking for trouble again.
Juliet was still trying to persuade her not to come, afraid she would be mistreated.
But Anastasia was resolute. "Don't worry, I've got this. Tell Winni I'm on my way."
Just as she hung up, Harrison appeared. He caught the end of her sentence, and his brow furrowed. "On your way? Where?"
