Aiden had been in discussions with Connor until late in the evening. When Connor suggested having dinner together, Aiden was about to accept, but then he remembered Valerie’s message from that afternoon. He declined politely, saying, “My wife is expecting me home for dinner.”

Connor looked disappointed but also somewhat envious. With a smile, he said, “You’re truly blessed, Mr. Walker.”

Aiden, rarely one to show emotion, felt uncharacteristically pleased, a rare display for him. He said nothing, but his silence spoke volumes, tacitly accepting it.

But when he called Valerie, it was Kelly who picked up and greeted him playfully, “Hey there, Mr. Landlord!”

‘I could practically see the cheeky grin on her face as she said that,‘ Aiden thought, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

Aiden frowned. “Why are you answering? Where’s Valerie?”

“Valerie’s in the restroom,” Kelly said playfully.

“Are you at my place?” Aiden asked.

“Nope, we’re out having dinner. Didn’t Valerie tell you?” Kelly replied, her tone dripping with mischief. “Oh dear, she looks really upset, especially when I brought you up. She totally didn’t want to talk about you. Did you do something to upset her?”

Aiden instinctively thought of Valerie’s WhatsApp message from that afternoon.

‘Could it really be just because I didn’t join her for lunch?‘ Aiden wondered.

Aiden didn’t think that was the reason. He frowned slightly, unable to figure it out, and asked, “What did you mean by ‘Mr. Landlord‘ just now?”

Kelly laughed and said, “You really didn’t know? Valerie has your contact saved as ‘Landlord‘ in her phone. Haven’t you ever checked your wife’s phone?”

Aiden had indeed never seen it before. But when Kelly said that, his expression instantly darkened.

Lennox, who was driving, suddenly felt a chill run down his spine and instinctively glanced in the rearview mirror.

Just moments ago, Aiden had been radiating warmth like a spring breeze, but now his expression darkened, all in the span of that single phone call.

Kelly said, “Alright, that’s enough talking. We’re getting dinner.”

Aiden asked, his tone a bit sharper, “Where’s Valerie?”

Kelly glanced at Valerie, who was sitting right in front of her, and said, “She’s still in the restroom. I’ll let her know later.”

Aiden thought, ‘Still in the restroom? She’s been in there that long?‘

Aiden rubbed his temples, his voice tight. “Where exactly are you?”

Kelly glanced at Sariah and Johanna beside her and said playfully, “You wanna join us? No can do! We’ve got plans. It’s girls‘ night with two more friends. Seriously, stop being so controlling over Valerie. We’re young, we should enjoy ourselves while we can! Once she starts a family, these fun times will be over. Alright, gotta run, bye!”

Aiden’s jaw tightened in silence.

Before Aiden could get a word in, Kelly had already hung up on him.

Aiden felt a faint tug at his heart. He hadn’t given the thought of starting a family much thought before.

‘A child… wouldn’t be so bad after all,’ Aiden mused.

After hanging up, Kelly handed the phone back to Valerie with a mischievous grin and asked, “Did you and my brother have a fight!

“No,” Valerie said, her face darkening as she recalled the message. “We can’t even fight.”

“So what’s the deal?” Kelly was dying of curiosity. “I know my brother’s got a terrible temper, just don’t provoke him and you’ll be fine. He’s just sharp tongued, that’s all. As for his personality… well, okay, it’s not great either, but deep down he’s… ugh, I can’t even fake this anymore.”

Valerie and Sariah burst out laughing.

Johanna asked curiously, “Wait, why do you have your husband saved as ‘Landlord‘ in your contacts?”

Kelly, curious too, looked over.

Valerie took a sip of soup and said calmly, “Because I live in his house.”

Kelly was momentarily speechless. Then she teased, “Wait, so you call him ‘Landlord‘, does that mean you really pay him rent?”

“If he asks for it, I’ll pay,” Valerie said calmly.

Johanna and Sariah burst out laughing together.

On the other side, Aiden texted Aaron Reed: [What does it mean when a woman saves a guy’s contact as ‘Landlord‘?]

Aaron, whose dating history could put Casanova to shame, shot back. [If they’re a couple, chances are it’s just because she’s crashing at his place.]
