The stone wall was too smooth and didn't offer Sebastian a grip to climb. He leaped more than ten feet, but the exit was too far. Plus, the wall was as slick as glass. He couldn't tap into the surrounding spiritual energy, so he fell back to the ground.
At that moment, bone-crunching stopped, and the demon stood up. The heavy footstep echoed as it dragged the chains across the ground. The demon gradually advanced toward Sebastian.
Sebastian's palms were slick with cold sweat, and his breath quickened as a foul stench filled the air. The demon was now less than 15 feet away.
Ten feet…
Six feet…
His heart skipped a beat, and it felt as if it might stop at any moment. He refused to wait for his fate. With a fierce determination, he stepped forward, raised the Demon Blade, and swung it down with all his might.
The strike drew on every ounce of strength and energy he possessed. It was imbued with the force of creation itself.
The Demon Blade struck something hard, and it produced a jarring metallic clash. His hands went numb from the impact.
When Sebastian tried to retract his blade, he was shocked to find it seemingly held fast by something. No matter how hard he pulled, it wouldn't budge.
Suddenly, an overwhelming force surged through his arms and he was forced to release his grip on the blade. Before he could react, a big hand clamped around his throat and lifted him off the ground.
Sebastian struggled desperately, but it was futile. Through the demon's glowing green eyes, he caught a glimpse of its face. It was horrifying as it was half rotten and emanated a stench that made him gag.
"Are you… the Demon Lord, Lazarus De Ville?" Sebastian croaked as he struggled to get the words out.
