Reborn From Oblivion (Nellie and Cameron) novel Chapter 1007

"Alright."

"Okay, that's that. I'm hanging up now."

As soon as the call ended, the Dowager turned to Jules, her words sharp and cutting. "You lose your temper way too easily around the kid. No wonder he doesn't feel close to you."

Jules rubbed his forehead. "I'm his father, and yet he treats me like a stranger. It's not me—he's just cold and distant. There's no way to get through to him."

At the Stewart Estate.

Nathalie and Morris sat together in silence.

"Is there nothing you want to say to me?" Morris finally asked.

Nathalie shook her head. Right now, she was pregnant, and nobody knew who the father was. This sudden turn of events had thrown all her plans into chaos, and even her boldness in chasing after Morris had started to fade.

She couldn't bring herself to ask Morris to be a stand-in dad for a child that wasn't his.

Morris caught the confusion and helplessness in Nathalie’s eyes. He felt a pang in his chest. "I've already told the Sharp family I’m not going back tonight. I’ll stay here."

Nathalie didn’t show her usual happiness; she just nodded calmly. "What do you want to eat? I’ll cook."

She stood up, and as she walked past Morris, he suddenly reached out and held her back. "Nathalie."

She paused, but didn’t turn around.

"You don't seem as warm to me as before. Are you still upset about what happened at my family's dinner? When I didn’t respond to you?"

Nathalie’s ears turned red as she remembered the courage it took to confess to him in front of his family.

"No, I’m not mad at you." She knew how uncertain his life was, and that he’d rejected her only because he didn’t want to drag her down with him.
