The humiliation hit them like a slap in the face, something Anna had never experienced before.
"Leave!" Hayden didn't even bother looking at their reactions. He turned and headed back upstairs.
Anna and Julia stood there, seething with anger, and their jaws clenched tight. It took a moment for them to calm down, and the sting of rejection was still fresh.
"Did you smell something just now?" Julia asked suddenly.
"Yeah, I think so. It smelled like that strong pain relief patch, and it was pretty overpowering." Anna replied thoughtfully.
"Looks like Hayden's condition did flare up." Julia said while frowning.
"Well, who cares? After how he treated us, I'm not about to waste my time anymore!" Anna snapped back; she was still fuming.
"Alright, let's just return." Julia signed and left the building with Anna.
They had come to check on Hayden and express some concern, but he shut them down before they had the chance with his bad attitude.
…
Back at the Sterling residence, the atmosphere was entirely different. The Sterlings sat together on the living room sofa while a few maids prepared dinner.
Francis and Charlotte were happily fussing over Hayden, and Lily sat close to him, radiating affection. The room was filled with warmth and joy.
"Where have you two been?" Serena asked casually as Anna and Julia walked inside.
"Why do you even bother with him? Let him fend for himself." Francis said coldly, his words laced with disdain.
"Is it really that serious?" Charlotte had suddenly spoken up.
Upon hearing that Hayden had rheumatism, concern immediately crept into Charlotte's mind. After all, Hayden was still her biological son.
"He didn't seem that bad, and I've never heard of this illness before." Julia shook her head.
The others shared similar expressions. Being wealthy and privileged, it was no surprise they didn't understand a common ailment like rheumatism.
"Where's Stephanie? Bring her here!" Charlotte was still concerned and urged them immediately.
