Danna laughed, feeling stiff, "How could it be? I was abroad recently. Don't believe everything you hear."
If it weren't for her mother secretly seeking help from her grandfather against Dominic’s objections, she might have already been spending time in prison.
Penelope cast a cold glance at Danna. "If you've chosen to appear here, then conduct yourself appropriately. Feel free to splurge in your fancy stores. Remember, I won't stand in your way if you're not wary of another failed marriage."
"You claimed you never went to jail; didn't you hear what I said?"
Danna stepped forward but was halted by Megan. "Two against one now. Are you going to start something?"
"The two individuals before her seemed formidable. After pondering momentarily, Danna suppressed her frustration and said through clenched teeth, "How could it be? There's no use hiding it from you now."
Dominic had cautioned her that she must not take the initiative to provoke Penelope.
"Realized your mistake, huh? We're not just anyone you can mess with," Megan said, brimming with pride as she leaned on Penelope.
Danna clenched her fists, seething with anger but unable to release it. She could only mutter her frustrations to herself.
However, she was informed by a store employee that the group had already left without notifying her.
The humiliation of being ostracized by the small group intensified. With resentment, Danna looked at the two individuals still inside the store...
Meanwhile, Penelope helped Megan try on several bracelets but didn't find one she liked. Just as they prepared to leave, a salesperson approached with a fake smile, suspicion evident in their eyes.
"Miss, is there another bracelet you haven't shown me?" The salesperson wore a forced smile, but doubt clouded his eyes unmistakably.
Another employee quickly said, "Indeed, one seems to be missing. Would you like to check?"
"If you need to search, do it yourselves. We're not involved," Penelope responded calmly.
The two store clerks couldn't voice their concerns outright. Their gaze settled on Penelope's open bag, and deliberately, they shifted their stance, subtly blocking the path to the exit.
Megan snapped, "If you can't find something, why stop us?"
"You fool, I believe you've stolen!" Danna declared coldly from the side, accusingly pointing at Penelope. "I witnessed her sneakily placing the bracelet into her bag."
With the testimony from the affluent daughter herself, the two store clerks grew even more convinced of their suspicions. With a stern demeanor, they demanded, "Miss, open your bag and let us see."
Penelope remained composed. "I didn't take the bracelet."
Carla didn't have a moment to greet her sisters; she needed to address their frustrations immediately.
Ignoring the pleasantries, Carla first addressed the matter at hand. "You two are fired," she declared to the stunned employees.
The store clerk was nearly in tears. However, unexpectedly, the two seemingly casual shoppers were friends of Ms. Emerson, the designer.
Danna, realizing the situation, clenched her aching hand. "You're all covering for each other!"
Carla's voice was icy, "I've already called the police. Once they arrive and review the surveillance footage, the truth will come out."
"Who's scared of whom? When the police arrive to search the bags, they'll go through them one by one. Let's see who's afraid!"
Danna wasn't the least bit afraid. She had spotted the blind spot in the surveillance footage and was confident she wouldn't be caught.
"You two better fight! If you won't, I'll do it myself!"
Danna exclaimed as she reached into her bag for her phone, only to feel something unexpectedly solid. Instantly, her mind raced: How could that diamond bracelet possibly be in her bag?
