Rebirth: We Split Ways.. novel Chapter 58

With the collaboration between the Meyer Group, the Archer Group, and the Diamoson Group almost finalized, it boiled down to the details once the contracts were in place. Diamoson and the Archer Group, significant investors, wanted to ensure everything was in order.

A minor oversight could mean a loss of millions in profits. No one wanted to see their hard-earned money go up in smoke.

Penelope scrutinized the project list and furrowed her brows lightly. "Why aren't the personnel from Diamoson included in any of the collaborative projects?"

It was common knowledge that the three companies would share strategies. The documents indicated collaboration between Meyer and the Archer Group but conveniently omitted Diamoson.

"These projects were initially between Meyer and the Archer Group. Adding Diamoson's personnel would only slow us down. Rest assured, once we have results, we'll update you."

The individual who spoke was Lucy, the female director dispatched by the Sailing Party. Appearing to be in her forties, she was impeccably groomed.

She spoke with a forced smile, likely a result of Botox.

"Oh, is that so?" Penelope nodded, appearing to agree with Lucy's statement.

Penelope nodded as if considering her words. "Then can you explain why, after signing the contract, we've yet to access the core technology of the nanorobotics?"

Lucy took a sip from her water glass, anticipating this question. "We'll need to address these issues when President Meyer returns. If there's an accidental technical leak from any of them, it could damage Project Sail."

She glanced at Dominic, noting his silence, further easing her concerns. Given the recent divorce scandal, he might even side with her against Penelope.

"Today's dilemma wasn't about fearing objections from Dominic. The divorce proceedings were causing quite a stir, and it seemed Dominic might be out to save face, with Penelope caught in the midst."

Penelope curled his lips, and a hint of mockery was evident. "So, Director, you're implying that unless Mr. Meyer returns to the country, Diamoson won't gain access to the core technology. If he remains overseas, our only option is to play the waiting game and bear the expenses, correct?"

"Ms. Reed, you're truly serious about this. We'll maintain utmost confidentiality," Lucy smiled, turning to the department heads below. "Isn't that, right?"

The rest remained silent, clearly signaling their agreement with Lucy's decision.

Dominic sat on the side, observing Penelope with the detachment of a spectator, uttering not a single word.

Ignoring the tension, Penelope remarked, "Then let's just tear up the contract."

She intentionally reversed Carlos to secure investments from Diamoson so that she couldn't be bothered with such trivial matters.

Now, she regretted letting Carlos manipulate her. The notion of trying to undermine Penelope initially and aiming for some gains seemed utterly foolish.

"President Reed, please don't be upset. This situation is open for discussion. Adhering to the contract would be wise. I'll ensure someone addresses it promptly."

"If we're aiming for a smooth discussion," Penelope scanned the group of supervisors, each wearing a distinct expression, "Anyone who finds the addition of personnel to the project cumbersome can raise their hand. You'll have the opportunity to resign immediately after this meeting."

This declaration ignited a firestorm among the subordinates. All had followed Lucy's directives, deliberately excluding Diamoson's personnel. How could they now be held accountable for this decision?

"Isn't it explicitly stated in the contract that Diamoson retains the authority to appoint and remove project directors? Am I mistaken, Director?"

Lucy felt like she was being grilled, her smile becoming increasingly forced. "President Reed, what happens to their other projects once dismissed?"

"It's acceptable to elevate the deputy director to a higher position. Suppose you lack such a basic staffing level. In that case, it might make me question your capability to embark on this venture," Penelope remarked with a subtle smile, speaking calmly, "In fact, it would further justify tearing up the contract."
