Rebirth: We Split Ways.. novel Chapter 57

"Miss Reed, I couldn't stop him," the secretary trailed in, looking flustered.

Penelope responded calmly, "It's fine. Close the door behind you."

Carlos's ribs had healed considerably, and the bandages on his face were gone. "Miss Reed, I've seen the project proposal for Meyer. Why isn't my name on it? Was it an oversight?"

Penelope casually twirled a golden pen and calmly replied, "It wasn't an oversight. I deliberately left your name out."

"This was our agreement," Carlos's smile vanished, replaced by a malevolent expression. "Isn't it dishonorable to go back on your word?"

With a sharp gaze that could cut through steel, Penelope locked eyes with Carlos. "Remember, I'm the boss. I have my reasons for making decisions."

Carlos's tone grew defiant, "Miss Reed, don't push me too far."

"Is that right? If I were to tease you, would you take it?"

Penelope shrugged it off with a smile, placing a hefty stack of photos on the table. She lifted her graceful chin and remarked, "With someone of Director Bosh's caliber involved in the project, it's bound to stir up quite a bit of trouble, wouldn't you say?"

Carlos's face turned ashen as he examined the photos. He looked up, panic evident in his eyes. "Where did you get these?"

"Do you need more? Would Director Bosh like some more to keep?" Penelope's tone was icy.

"No, no need,"

Carlos's confidence crumbled.

Penelope tapped the table lightly with slender fingers. "My hunch was right; you're not new to such activities, right?"

"If these people find out they were secretly filmed while engaging in clandestine activities with you, they might want more than just your resignation," Penelope warned.

Carlos felt trapped. While he was exposed, revealing the identity of his contacts would implicate him further, a risk he wasn't willing to take.

"Ms. Reed, don't assume possessing these photos gives you any pride over me," he declared confidently. "I've likely already contributed significantly. If they aim to tarnish their reputation, everyone stands to lose. I'm not afraid."

"Ms. Reed, don't evade responsibility. Include my name promptly. Otherwise, you might find the days ahead less favorable," he cautioned.

"Don't exert yourself needlessly. If I've decided not to collaborate, then I won't," Penelope asserted with a demeanor that still radiated an aura of authority and control. She turned her attention to Carlos, saying, "Director Bosh, reveal who's pulling the strings behind Project Sail, and perhaps my stance might shift."

Carlos found himself at a loss for words. It wasn't due to a lack of desire to speak up but rather the weighty implication that revealing such information would confirm allegations of him betraying the company's confidential data.

"He boarded the earliest flight to Redmond this morning."

"Excellent, peace at last," Penelope grinned.

At noon, Levi called, expressing his apologies. He mentioned an urgent project development seminar and advised that Penelope and Dominic should liaise directly with the directors if there are any issues or progress updates.

Penelope agreed and accompanied Kevin to the Meyer Group.

Penelope, carrying a rare white crocodile Hermès Birkin bag, was dressed impeccably in a misty blue suit. Her makeup was flawless as she entered the boardroom with poise.

Dominic was already seated inside. As he caught sight of the slender figure in blue, his thin, elongated fingers rested on the desk. The emotion within his eyes remained inscrutable.

Kevin pulled out the chair for Penelope, then stood silently behind her without uttering a word.

With a gentle smile, Penelope greeted the seated directors. Then, arching an eyebrow, she looked coldly at Dominic and uttered, "Mr. Archer."

The sharp indifference in Penelope's voice pricked Dominic deeply. Although he felt a surge of frustration, he remained composed, responding tersely, "Yeah."
