The Archer residence was enveloped in a somber atmosphere.
Dominic sat on the sofa, his face darkened, silent for a while. He had just returned from the police station after bailing out Kyla.
Although they had immediately compensated for the damages at the store, the amount involved was substantial. With Penelope side unwilling to negotiate, it seemed highly likely that Danna would face a three-year prison sentence, as preliminary estimates from their lawyer suggested.
Upon awakening, Melissa’s face turned pale upon learning that her daughter might face such a lengthy sentence.
"Dominic, listen to your mother; your sister cannot go to prison!" Her voice trembled with disbelief. "How can she, so young, coexist with those dangerous people? She will break!"
"Son, please speak to that woman, Penelope. Maybe soften your tone, let her feel superior for a few days, and persuade her to agree to a settlement, alright?"
Melissa’s tone bordered on pleading, a clear departure from her usual demeanor. She had now realized the need to be more accommodating.
Dominic’s brows knitted together tightly, and his voice resonated with intensity. "Teaming up with the underworld to fraudulently seize others' assets? That's audacious. Danna has truly crossed a line!"
He did want to negotiate with Penelope, but the pressing issue was her unwillingness to do so. She seemed intent on seeing Danna imprisoned.
"What are you implying? Do you want Danna to spend her youthful years behind bars?" Melissa exclaimed in frustration.
"She needs to learn a lesson," Dominic retorted coldly.
"It's because of that woman that Danna faced such torment. She was so infuriated that she sought retribution by vandalizing the store. It's entirely that woman's doing, and Danna suffered because of her!" With each word, Melissa’s distress became increasingly palpable.
Witnessing Dominic's indifferent stance, Melissa knew she needed a more drastic measure.
She approached the window, dangling one foot outside, threateningly. "If you don't intervene with that woman, I'll jump from here and let you witness my death!"
Kyla was taken aback by Melissa’s reaction and quickly rushed over, grasping her hand firmly. "Dominic, please, calm down, Auntie!”
"Enough!"
Dominic's stern voice reverberated, startling Melissa. She had never seen this side of her son, prompting her to retract her leg and sit back on the sofa, chastened.
As a husband, he realized he had failed her.
"You not only belittled her at home but also vandalized the store she painstakingly built. With Danna’s audacious and overbearing nature, he'll inevitably face consequences in the future. Perhaps a three-year stint in prison would be a fitting lesson for him!" Dominic declared, urging for a resolution.
As Melissa attempted to defend her daughter, a single glance from Dominic silenced her. Reluctantly, she sat back down.
Frustrated, Dominic loosened his tie, his gaze piercingly fixed on Kyla, whose silence was suffocating.
"You've known Penelope identity for a long time. Why pretend otherwise and secretly photograph her in compromising situations?"
Kyla was speechless, stunned that Dominic had uncovered everything.
"Forget about the trending scandal," Dominic remarked dismissively.
Relieved, Kyla silently exhaled.
