Logically, Wilson Corporation's invitation should have been delivered yesterday. The fact that it was delayed by a day was probably the Wilson family sending a little lesson.
But should she go?
If possible, she certainly wanted to go—preferably attending with James.
When James came home from work, before he could even release his exhaustion, he saw Charlotte walking toward him.
He suppressed his irritation, loosened his tie, and asked like he was completing a task, "How was your day?"
Charlotte helped him take off his suit jacket and said ingratiatingly, "Pretty good."
James nodded and was about to head to his study when he noticed Charlotte looking at him with something to say.
He stopped and stared into her eyes, his tone slightly cold. "What is it?"
Charlotte bit her lower lip and pulled out the invitation. She asked tentatively, "James, the Wilson family sent an invitation. It's for Vivian's birthday party. Let's go together?"
There had been all sorts of rumors lately about problems in her marriage with James. This would be a perfect opportunity.
James rubbed his temples and refused her suggestion without thinking. "No, you can't go."
The same invitation had already been sent to Sanders Corporation. At this critical time, Sarah would be attending.
He didn't want Sarah to see Charlotte standing by his side, even though he knew full well he no longer had a chance.
Charlotte raised her voice in disbelief. "Why?"
Charlotte wanted more than that. "What about you? Have you fulfilled your duties as a husband? You won't even sleep in the same bed as me. Do I disgust you that much?"
James didn't want to hear her complaints anymore. He'd heard too much—his heart was almost numb to it.
Without wasting more words on her, he turned and went upstairs.
Charlotte wanted to go hysterical but didn't want others to see the spectacle, so she could only grit her teeth and swallow her anger.
After she calmed down, she secretly made up her mind. No matter what James said, she was definitely going to Vivian's birthday party!
Not only would she go, but she would make a high-profile entrance.
Charlotte thought about the several new luxury gowns in her closet.
