Judy looked at Sarah with a pale face, her lips trembling slightly. "What do you really want?"
"The truth. I only want the truth. Tell me exactly what happened," Sarah glanced at the corner of the room again.
Judy swallowed hard and asked, "What happens if I tell you?"
"You'll get some money, and I'll delete this recording. I just want to know who's behind all this."
Judy swallowed again. "How much money?"
"One million."
The interrupted livestream reconnected, and Zachary paused his work. On the screen, Judy put down her bag and calmly sat on the sofa, speaking slowly. "A week ago, Yvonne and I were just ordinary employees at the company. Then a woman approached us, along with a few other colleagues. She gave us cards for Pine Mist Island Resort, saying we could stay for two days for free—all food, drinks, and activities included. Who wouldn't want such a good deal?"
She paused before continuing, "The next day, that woman found Yvonne and me. She knew everything about us—specifically about Yvonne's mother's condition. She had paid a hundred thousand upfront for Yvonne's mother's emergency treatment. Yvonne was just a regular employee, and her mother's illness had already drained all her money, leaving her deep in debt. The woman said she would give Yvonne one million if we helped her with something."
Her thoughts drifted back to that day.
"One million?!" Judy's eyes widened.
Yvonne was equally shocked as she looked at the woman. "What do you want us to do?"
Judy looked at Sarah, tears in her eyes. "Yes, it was me. That woman told me if I could convince Yvonne, I'd also get one million. That's one million—who wouldn't want that?"
"Yvonne, stop thinking about it. It's not just ten thousand—it's one million. How much do we make in a month? Two or three thousand at most. We might not even make a hundred thousand in ten years. Besides, she's already paid a hundred thousand for your mother. If you refuse, how will you pay that back?"
"Yvonne, HR just announced today that the company is laying people off. We older employees will likely be the first to go. Those new hires are all graduates from prestigious universities. We don't stand a chance against them."
"Time's almost up. Have you decided? It's fine if you refuse, but I wonder about your mother's illness..."
"Everything I'm telling you is the truth. Yvonne was tempted by the million herself, so we made that phone call. Yvonne received a package of drugs from her, and I was supposed to make sure she died."
