Paige always knew Leila’s plan to kidnap Lydia would never work.
After Leila kidnapped Lydia, she went out of her way to contact her. If the police got involved, there was no way she would escape responsibility. Still, Paige wasn't someone easily rattled.
When she arrived at the police station and spotted Lucinda already there, she realized Lucinda was just as caught up in this mess as she was.
“Paige, you’re here! Please, you have to tell them. It was Lucinda who lied to us!”
Leila rushed over to Paige the moment she saw her, almost tripping in her hurry.
Paige just stared, completely lost. She had no idea what Leila was going on about.
To sort things out, one of the officers took Paige aside to record her statement. Lucinda tried to say something to Paige, but another officer approached her. “You and Paige both need to make statements. Please cooperate.” Lucinda nodded silently and followed him out.
About half an hour later, Paige and Lucinda stepped out of the interrogation rooms at the same time. The way Paige looked at Lucinda had completely changed. She watched Lucinda for a long moment, as if she was looking at a stranger she’d never met before.
Lucinda felt a wave of anxiety and called out softly, “Paige, are you alright?”
Paige’s eyes were cold. She didn’t answer Lucinda. She just said quietly, “You’re on your own now.”
Leila, who had been secretly in love with Elliot for years, started holding a grudge against Lydia. After the argument they had at Capital College yesterday, Leila finally snapped and made a reckless decision.
When the police shared Paige’s statement, Kylie and Cameron were stunned. They had trusted Lucinda completely before this. Now they were hearing things about her they never expected.
“Lucinda, how could you...” Kylie stared at Lucinda, her face showing only shock and disappointment.
Lucinda knew things had gone wrong the moment she saw the way Paige looked at her. She dropped to her knees in front of Kylie and Cameron, tears streaming down her face.
“Dad, Mom, it’s not what you think. Lydia just wanted to keep her identity a secret for now. When they came home and saw her, I had no choice but to say she was your adopted daughter. They saw her having dinner with Con... with my brother-in-law and got the wrong idea. I never said Lydia stole anything from me. They’re just saying that to get out of trouble. Dad, Mom, please believe me.”
