Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 1106

When he came out from that dinner, it was already late at night.

Early spring in North City was always suddenly warm and cold.

Shayne stood at the hotel’s entrance, lifted his head, and looked at the skies. It was extremely dark.

The air was still cold and dreary from winter.

Jake drove the car around. He got down from the car and opened the backseat door. He noticed Shayne standing by the entrance in a daze.

Henry called after him, “Master Shayne? It’s time to go.”

Jake, with one hand in his pocket, did not hastily get in the car. Instead, he said something unrelated, “It’s already spring but why are the skies still so dark?”

Jake did not give it much thought. He only smiled and replied, “The darker the skies, the brighter the stars.”

“Do you think there are stars that bright in Los Angeles?”

Jake replied without thinking, “Los Angeles has a Mediterranean-type climate. Its temperatures are much more subdued, dry all year round with minimal rain, and sunny all year long. If the weather is good, the stars in Los Angeles should be much brighter than our country’s.”

“You’re talking too much.” Shayne glared at him, then got in the car moodily.

Jake was speechless.

‘Oh, Los Angeles. Is he missing Miss Yanny?’

The black business car cruised steadily.

Shayne did not drink that much that night, but he still drank quite a lot. He was in a semi-drunken state.

Jake swept a glance at him from the rearview mirror. He was stumped for a while, then said, “Master Shayne, I remember that your birthday is in two days. Since you’re not too busy recently, why don’t I book a flight ticket to Los Angeles for you, so you can go and see Miss Yan-”

Before he could finish saying Yanny, Shayne said coldly, “Don’t you know that I never celebrate birthdays?”

Jake was speechless. ‘F*ck. I can’t do it right no matter what!’

Shayne closed his eyes and leaned back to rest. His emotionless look made Jake agitated.

Should he say something? Or should he just maintain the silence in the air? This was a problem for Jake.

Shayne looked like he wanted to be left alone, so Jake could only shut up and say nothing more.

At the backseat, Shayne was still annoyed.

It might be that he met Maria during dinner tonight which caused him to be depressed, or perhaps that dense Jake intentionally or unintentionally brought up Yanny.

Shayne furrowed his brows and fished out his phone. He went through his messages and scrolled down, finally, tapping on Yanny’s messages.

As usual, Yanny sent him a good night text, yet he did not reply.

He typed in two words in the chatbox with his long, slender fingers, [Goodnight.]

He was about to send but he hesitated for some time. Finally, he deleted them and exited the app before locking his phone.

Since he could not see her, he would rather not reply. It was useless to reminisce.

He missed her pressing onto his chest, looking up at him with squinted eyes, smiling at him, and saying, “Good night, Jordan.”

Then, they cuddled to sleep.

At the same time, on the other side of the ocean, it was nine in the morning in Los Angeles.

Yanny sent a good night message to Shayne when it was morning where she was at. North City and Los Angeles were 15 hours apart.

Meaning, when it was night for Shayne, Yanny’s day just started.

According to Shayne’s night owl lifestyle, he would not be asleep at this time. Hence, if he did not reply to her messages, it was not because of the time difference. It was purely because he did not want to reply or did not know how to reply.

This was the second month that Yanny was apart from Shayne.

‘PMS? A male director has PMS as well?’

Kelly pushed Yanny into the changing room and said, “Quickly change your clothes! You have three minutes, ok?”

Yanny gave her an okay sign. Kelly waited outside the change room for Yanny.

While Yanny was changing, she discussed with Kelly, “Kelly, can I take two days off starting tomorrow?”

Kelly furrowed her brows. “You just entered the set, missy! You just started, yet you want to run away? How do you think the director and producer will think of you? Sister, do you still want to continue working in Hollywood?”

“Just for two days! When I’m back, I’ll concentrate on work, okay?”

“No! This is not up for discussion! Are you planning to take leave to go back?”

Yanny finished changing her clothes and came out of the dressing room. “Yes, I’m planning to go back.”

“Why? To celebrate your boyfriend’s birthday?”

Kelly simply came up with the reason but she did not expect that Yanny would turn silent.

Kelly did not know whether to laugh or cry. “My goodness, sister! Did I guess correctly? You have a boyfriend?”

Yanny admitted through silence.

Kelly looked at her and said half-joking, half-seriously, “If you want to go back and celebrate your boyfriend’s birthday, I’m not against it. However, you have to think clearly. Do you want a short-term love or a life-long career? At your age, I understand the need to go back and be with your boyfriend, celebrate his birthday, being all touched and crying together. However, babe, you have to know that you might miss out on a great opportunity due to you going back for two days. This opportunity might be a rise to stardom for your career, or it might be even an Oscar that you might have missed.”

Kelly was 35, single, and not married. She was a strong, independent woman through and through. She did not wish to get married but instead focused on her career. Men to her are unstable creatures.

Yanny understood Kelly’s words and was suddenly slightly convinced by her.

Yanny was conflicted.

She just started working, and if she were to take leave and return to North City, it would be very unprofessional and it would make her seem unmotivated in her career.

Kelly looked at her, stretched her hand out, and patted Yanny on the shoulders. She said meaningfully, “Young girl, let me give you a piece of advice. Don’t pretend to be working hard, because the consequences will stick with you. Sometimes, you have to do what you don’t want to do most, to get the things you want the most. You can go back and celebrate your boyfriend’s birthday. I won’t stop you, but if you lose out, don’t come crying to me. Opportunities don’t come easy. You have to grasp hold of it.”
