Cedric's gaze swept over the bold SUV as he commented, "Didn't expect this to be your type."
Noelle gave her car a playful pat and smiled. "Only a beast like this can hold a soul as wild as mine."
He fell silent for a moment. Did that mean she didn't like the sleek sports car?
Before he could say anything else, Laura appeared out of nowhere and grabbed his arm. "Cedric, please, are you that determined to destroy the Merlock family?"
Noelle turned around and saw her. Unlike the once-glamorous top socialite she'd once been, Laura now looked pale and disheveled. Things had clearly gone south for the Merlock family.
It was no wonder they hadn't stirred up any trouble lately; they must have been too busy scrambling to keep afloat.
Cedric's expression darkened as he glanced at her hand clinging to his arm. "Let go."
"Cedric, you're ruthless!" Laura had seen how cruel the world could be in the past few weeks. It was only last night she learned the truth about Cedric orchestrating everything the Merlock family had suffered.
He shoved her away with disdain and withdrew a napkin to wipe his sleeve in disgust. Then, he looked up and snapped, "What did you expect? That you could scheme against the Greene family and walk away unharmed?"
Just then, Samantha arrived, supporting Ruth, who looked equally worn and fragile.
Ruth's eyes were filled with desperation as she stared at Cedric and said, "But lawsuits and businesses are two different things. Are you sure you want to leave us bankrupt?"
She'd never imagined Cedric would go as far as to crush them behind their backs.
Cedric looked at her with nothing but contempt. "If you'd come forward and confessed when you had the chance, perhaps the Merlocks wouldn't be in this mess. Your daughters could've still lived their pampered lives. But now, that window's closed."
Since words clearly meant nothing to the Merlocks, he decided harsher measures would mean higher efficiency.
Ruth's eyes welled up with despair. "You're brutal! Does your mother know what you've done?"
After the last confrontation, she'd been unable to reach her good friend, Emma.
"She won't stop me," Cedric coldly spat.
