Noelle was furious. "Do you honestly think that I care about you? But if you're trying to make some kind of disgusting deal with the Merlocks, I'll actually have to step in.
"Donovan Liddell, who was it again that used to go on and on about how a certain someone saved our parents, as well as constantly bringing up their deaths? I did not expect you to be a hypocrite of all people. You're actually reconciling with the Merlocks just because they're giving you money?"
Donovan was not going to admit to anything. "Shut your mouth, Noelle! I'm just meeting up to talk with someone from the Merlock family. I'm not trying to reconcile with them!"
He was extremely annoyed with Noelle. He wondered if she was deliberately humiliating him at that moment since he was supposed to be her older brother, after all.
As she stood at the side, Laura watched the siblings argue with a hint of delight in her eyes. It was what she had wanted.
She quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "Please don't fight, both of you. Noelle, you've misunderstood Donovan. He only came to ask me about what had really happened back then."
Noelle looked at her and replied, "The check's right there on the table. Who do you think you're fooling?"
"Ms. Liddell, the check is just a gesture of goodwill from the Merlock family. Yes, I did approach Mr. Liddell for talks about reconciliation, but he did not agree to anything. There's no need to assume the worst of him. You're family, aren't you?"
Laura had already looked into the Liddell family's relationships before she reached out to Donovan.
She knew that the Liddells had mistakenly believed that Sean was the person who saved Noelle's life. As such, they treated the adopted sister, Xenia, better than their own biological sister.
Because of that, a huge rift appeared between Noelle and the rest of her brothers.
Laura knew that it was the perfect place for her to strike.
Donovan's expression eased a little as he explained, "That's right. I have no reason to reconcile with them. Noelle, you've seriously misjudged me."
Laura turned to him and said, "Mr. Liddell, I hope that you'll at least consider my proposal. Both of our families were victims of Sean, after all."
