Cedric knew his mother would never believe a word he said unless he brought out concrete evidence.

Emma didn't believe him. "And what proof do you have?"

Cedric played back the recording of his conversation with Ruth for his mother.

Ruth said, "I just wanted to prevent the Liddell couple from competing in the bid. I didn't expect them to die. That just proves they had bad luck."

After hearing the recording, Emma fell silent. She hadn't expected that this was the truth behind what happened all those years ago.

Cedric sighed. "Mom, let's set aside whether Mrs. Merlock intended to harm me. What matters is that she hired someone and bribed the Liddell driver to stage that accident, which ended up killing Noelle's parents. She must pay the price for that."

Emma was silent for a moment. "Then you should've just found the evidence. Why did you have to kidnap her?"

Cedric shook his head. "The kidnapping was to get the evidence. This case is basically in the clear. As long as we find the surviving driver, we can report it to the police and open a formal investigation."

Emma froze, shocked by the outcome. What surprised her even more was learning that the Merlocks were involved. She had always thought it was just an accident.

Now, it was clear that Cedric had been investigating the crash alongside Noelle for some time.

Emma hesitated. "You did all this for Noelle, didn't you? But does she know you were in that car too?"

Cedric was quiet. "She doesn't know yet."

Emma sighed. "When are you planning to tell her?"

He thought for a moment. "Once we catch the driver, I'll tell her everything."

Emma took a deep breath and stood up. "I think you should tell her now. And if you don't have the courage, then I'll do it for you."
