Noelle's gaze immediately snapped to Samantha after hearing her panicked words, her eyes sharp and assessing. A thought crept into her mind—could this have something to do with Cedric? Still, she kept a calm expression because things like this were not easy to confirm on the spot.
Samantha's voice trembled on the phone, clearly shaken and on the verge of tears.
Noelle watched her with a hint of irony in her eyes—so the Merlocks finally knew what it felt like to lose someone they loved. Yet, it was their family who orchestrated the crash all those years ago, which stole her parents from her.
"Noelle, what are you staring at? My mom's going to be fine.
"She's Mrs. Greene's best friend—the Greenes will help find her," Samantha snapped. She was clearly trying to put on a brave face, clenching her jaw as she threw down the challenge.
Noelle replied flatly, "Are you sure you want to keep wasting time here?"
"Don't get too smug, Noelle. My mom's gonna be just fine."
Even though she had said that, Samantha was still too worried to keep bickering and rushed off in a panic. Noelle watched her leave, her gaze turning darker.
Grace leaned in and whispered, "She kinda had it coming, didn't she? The Merlocks have always acted so untouchable—someone probably finally snapped and went after them."
Noelle warned her, "Don't say things like that. If Samantha finds out, she'll come after you hard."
The last thing she wanted was to drag Grace into trouble. Samantha already disliked her, and if she found out Grace was talking behind her back, it would be bad news.
Grace quickly nodded. "I got it. I'll be more careful next time."
"Anyway, I'm heading out." Noelle did not explain further and walked off campus.
Sure enough, she spotted Cedric's car parked along the curb. She hurried over, opened the door, and got in.
"This is for you," Cedric said, handing her a small, fancy-looking pouch filled with snacks.
Noelle peeked inside. "You even had the time to buy this?"
