Noelle stared coldly at Frank. "If you had seen through Xenia earlier, maybe you would've noticed something was seriously off about her."
Frank's chest tightened until each breath felt like glass in his lungs. He dropped to his knees and cried out, "Fine! It's my fault; it's all our fault, alright? Now that you've seen us suffer like idiots, are you satisfied?"
Noelle's eyes were burning red. Her chest felt heavy like she could not breathe. She tilted her head back and stared at the sky, refusing to let her tears fall. Then, she looked back down and said, "It's not enough."
In her past life, she had died in the most brutal way because of all this. She could already guess how it went. Xenia and Sean had worked together to strip the Liddells of everything while the family blindly played into their hands like fools.
This time around, it was Noelle who uncovered the truth.
Frank's voice cracked with tears. "What do we have to do for you to forgive us?"
She spat, "Never. I'll never forgive you."
Noelle meant it. Then, she turned and walked off with Cedric without another glance back.
Frank watched her retreating figure and shouted, "Noelle, we're still your family! No one can take that away!"
But Noelle did not turn around. Frank dropped to the ground, completely defeated. "Donovan, what the hell are we supposed to do?"
He had thought that after recovering from his surgery, he could finally reconnect with Noelle and slowly repair things between her and the Liddells. Then, this happened—at the worst possible time. It hit him like a punch to the gut.
Donovan lay on the ground, eyes staring blankly at the dark sky, blood still on his lips. At that moment, he did not have a single answer. He started questioning why the universe had to play such a cruel joke on him.
