Noelle's expression was a bit stiff as she said, "It's nothing."
Emma saw Noelle's expression and immediately jumped to conclusions, saying, "Miss, were you domestically abused? Just tell me the truth! You helped me out just now, so I swear I'll have your back on this one."
She continued, "Listen, miss, you can't just let a man get away with this! If he dares to lay a hand on you, you better hit him back, you hear me?"
Noelle was exasperated by the response. "It's not domestic abuse, but close enough... My brother did it."
Emma was fuming. "Your brother? What a scumbag! If I had a daughter, and my son ever laid a hand on her, I'd break his damn legs myself! Who the hell raises a boy to hit his own sister?"
She turned to Noelle, dead serious. "Who's your brother? I'll get you the best lawyer out there and make sure he pays for this!"
Noelle simply replied, "No need, I can handle it. But thanks, pretty lady."
Hearing those words, Emma instantly perked up and touched her face with a smug expression. "Oh? Am I really looking that good lately? Sweetheart, I could be your mother!"
"You look really young," Noelle complimented her smoothly.
Emma's mood improved significantly. "Miss, do me a favor, will you? Take me upstairs to the VIP ward and say I'm your family member, okay?"
"Sure," Noelle immediately agreed.
Emma was caught off guard. "You're not even going to ask why?"
"It's fine." Noelle stood up. "Come on, I was heading back to my room anyway."
Emma immediately hooked her arm around Noelle's. "Then let's go!"
This way, she figured, they would not draw any attention. The two of them took the elevator up while the nearby bodyguards exchanged a quick glance, pretending not to notice. They figured that Emma was here to check on her future daughter-in-law.
"Nothing much. She just asked for directions," Noelle answered.
However, she sensed something off about Cedric, as if he was nervous. She asked, "Why? Do you know that fancy lady?"
"Fancy lady?" Cedric carefully studied her expression, looking strangely uneasy. "That's all she was to you?"
Noelle replied, "Yeah. She just asked for directions. Judging by her clothes and how well she takes care of herself, she's obviously a rich lady."
She tilted her head and looked up at him. "Do you know her?"
Cedric hesitated, unsure how to answer. Just then, both their phones buzzed at the same time.
Noelle immediately realized it must be the security app on her phone sending an alert—Xenia must have contacted Sean.
