Still, Noelle wasn't surprised to see Laura in such a state. Back when Laura was all arrogant and high-profile, she probably never imagined she'd end up so pathetic.
Ordinary people might be powerless, but once their hard-earned savings were swindled, they tended to lose control. After all, people with nothing left were often the ones most likely to go mad.
When Laura looked up and saw Noelle, she screamed, "It's all her fault!"
That shout immediately drew the crowd's attention toward Noelle, but when faced with the agitated investors, she calmly said, "My fault? You were the one constantly encouraging them to invest.
"You knew something was wrong with those projects, yet you turned a blind eye and pushed forward just for commission. You made dirty money off their backs."
Laura quickly backed away. "I didn't! That wasn't me!"
Laura's gaze was cold as Noelle snapped, "You absolutely did. I raised doubts about PZ Group's investment projects early on and helped my friend, Mia, withdraw her money. It caused a stir back then."
The agitated investors started nodding in agreement. "She's right. I remember that incident, but it's a pity I didn't pull out back then."
"I registered for a refund, but Laura talked me out of it. She said if I kept investing, she'd give me double the interest."
"This was my entire retirement fund, and now it's gone!"
"Laura's a con artist! She ruined my family!" The crowd's fury was entirely focused on Laura, and their expressions were filled with murderous rage.
She hid behind the cops and stammered, "I-I plead guilty. Please just arrest me."
The last thing she wanted was to be beaten to death.
She was very aware of what she'd done. If she were left outside, these people would tear her apart. Prison was the only place she might be safe now.
