At the moment of the crash, everything around Noelle seemed to have slowed down before her vision went black. She couldn't remember anything else after that.

When she finally woke up again, the first thing she saw was a stark, white ceiling, and the sharp, sterile scent of disinfectant filled her nose.

"You're awake?"

Noelle turned to the voice and saw Carl beside her. "How is he?" she asked.

Her voice sounded hoarse, like a rusty old fan struggling to work. Immediately after her question, her throat itched unbearably, and she started coughing.

Carl stepped forward and used a throat spray on her. It helped immediately. Sighing, he replied, "You're this badly hurt and still thinking about him?"

But Noelle kept staring at him, so he had to relent and reply, "He's not going to die. You should worry more about yourself."

The truth behind the sudden car crash bothered Noelle. Why would something like that happen now, of all times? There was a strange feeling of everything slipping out of control, but she couldn't quite put a finger on it.

She looked up at Carl and asked, "Do you know that Xenia's back?" There was a double meaning in her words. Xenia's return also referred to her being reborn.

Carl seemed surprised to hear that. "Are you saying she's different now?"

"Probably. She's locked up in the basement of the Liddell residence and likely knows something. I'm guessing you can tell whether or not she's lying."

Carl's expression darkened. "How does someone like her have the guts to return to the Liddell residence?"

"Why wouldn't she? With all the things she remembers from before, she could be a valuable asset that boosts the Liddell family's status in Yasnia. Of course, Donovan would be tempted by that."

Carl clenched his teeth. "I'll handle this, and you don't have to worry. I'll make sure she lives a life worse than death now that she has the nerve to come crawling back."

Studying his furious expression, Noelle added, "Did she live comfortably in her past life?"
