Ivy felt that she had been having the worst luck imaginable as of recently. She never once imagined that she would go through something like this.

Ivy thought that she had already suffered enough in the first half of her life. She had been working hard for many, many years. Just when life was finally starting to turn for the better, and she was finally starting to make a comeback, fate decided to mess with her again.

Just then, Owen walked over to her and said, "Boss, we've got news."

Ivy looked up at Owen with a glimmer of hope. "Is it about Eason?"

But that hope would disappear in an instant. Frustrated, she opened up a bottle of liquor and poured herself a full glass. "What is it?"

Owen explained, "Boss, Xenia met with someone from the Liddell family in secret while she was out shopping at the mall. I think we need to take precautions. Xenia might expose your identity otherwise."

Ivy downed her drink and replied, "Maybe she's just showing off to the Liddells."

No one knew Xenia's personality better than her own mother, after all. Ivy could tell that Xenia was just a younger version of herself—extremely vain and willing to do whatever it took to live a better life.

She knew that Xenia would not spill their secrets in order to maintain her current comfortable life.

Owen was anxious. "Boss, but things are different now. We're already at the most critical point of our plan. We can't afford to make any mistakes. You're not like how you used to be, boss. If this fails—"

Ivy slammed the glass down and shouted, "Shut up! My plan is flawless! There won't be any problems. We've made it through so many things by now. Won't you believe in me?"

"That's not what I mean, boss. I just want you to calm down."

She pulled out a gun and pointed it at Owen. "You think you can tell me how to do things now? Know your place, Owen."

Owen raised both his hands. "I'm just worried about you, boss. So many things have happened lately, from your son being kidnapped to your biological daughter suddenly showing up at your house.

"Don't you think that it's all a little strange? Dangerous, even?"
