Noelle sat alone on the stairs. She felt that she was completely surrounded by darkness.

She started recalling how she and Mia first met and she felt so overwhelmed that she could hardly breathe.

Some time later, Cedric came and sat down beside her.

He reached out and pulled her into his arms and spoke up softly. "Mia's going to be okay."

Noelle could not hold back any longer and started sobbing. She could not accept the reality of the situation.

She had just met Mia early during the day, and now, Mia was lying in the emergency room with her life hanging by a thread.

Cedric felt that his heart was being squeezed by something when he heard how much Noelle was in pain from her sobs.

Noelle cried for a very long time all the way until her throat started to ache.

Cedric was heartbroken for her. "It's alright. Let's rest up for a bit."

Noelle shook her head. "I can't sleep."

There was no way she could rest, at least not until she knew for certain that Mia's health was no longer in danger.

She received a message from Carl. "I'll be arriving in half an hour."

She then wiped away her tears and stood up. When she looked at Cedric, however, she hesitated for a moment as she did not know how to explain the situation to him.

Cedric took out a piece of tissue and gently wiped away the tear streaks on her face. "I already heard everything when you were on the phone just now."

Noelle lowered her eyes. "I'll do anything in order to keep Mia safe."

"I know. It must be hard for you to be indebted to them again."

The other relatives chimed in, "That's right! We're Mia's family, so we should have the right to decide about her treatment. You don't have the authority to stop us!"

Hearing the commotion, Noelle immediately stormed over with bloodshot eyes.

She glared at Salena and said, "What are you trying to do? Do you think that taking Mia away with you will give you a chance to take all of her assets for yourself?!"

Salena pointed a finger at Noelle and snapped back at her. "Watch your mouth, Noelle! What do you mean by that?! I'm her family! I'm just trying to save her! Don't think that I don't know what you're up to, Noelle. Back when Maple Enterprise was in trouble, you tried to borrow money from Mia, didn't you? You're also just after her for her money, aren't you?!"

The other relatives chimed in, "That's right! We're Mia's family. We would never cause her any harm. Who knows what the outsiders like her friends are really after? At the very least, family never changes!"

Noelle snorted and stared at Salena. "I won't let you take Mia with you no matter what you say. She's staying here and will be receiving her treatment here."

She knew exactly what Salena was planning to do.
