No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 135

Hearing York's words, Ann's eyes welled up with tears of grievance.

She shook her head, speaking with righteous conviction. "York, how could this not weigh on me? Your marriage is in trouble because of me. I want to help, but I really don't know what to do."

York's expression was difficult to read. "You don't have to do anything," he said. "I'll handle the issues between my wife and me."

Ann nodded obediently.

Then, changing the subject, she said, "York, my brother and sister-in-law have abandoned us, and I don't have any other friends in Capital City after being abroad for six years. All I hope for is that, for the sake of our past, if I ever face a problem I truly can't handle, you'll be there to help us. That's all I ask."

"Ann," York assured her, "my promise to you will always stand."

Having gotten the answer she wanted, Ann didn't waste any more of his time. "Thank you, York. Your wife is lucky to have married you."

York looked down, hiding the emotion in his eyes. If Claudia were really that happy, she wouldn't be stirring up all this drama now.

As York and Ann left the coffee shop, they unexpectedly ran into Claudia's parents.

Their eyes met.

Ann subtly linked her arm with York's, leaning her head against his shoulder. "York, I'm scared."

"I'm here. They won't do anything to you." York gently pushed Ann away. "Just go home."

He then caught up to Claudia's parents, offering to carry their bags. "Dad, Mom, let me give you a ride."

Felix glared at him. "No need."

The elderly couple held hands, waiting for the light to change.

York didn't insist, nor did he offer an explanation.

Ann followed anxiously. "York, did your wife's family get us wrong again?"

Just then, a black luxury car pulled up to the curb.

Darleen lunged for Ann. "Bitch, how dare you!"

York grabbed his sister's wrist and pushed her away.

Darleen stomped her foot in frustration. "Brother, you betrayed my sister-in-law for this woman, and now you're pushing me for her! What kind of spell has she put on you?"

"Darleen, enough," York warned, his face dark.

Wendy pulled her daughter to her side, her gaze a warning to her son. "Let's just see if you're willing to disown your own mother for this woman!"

As York moved to protect Ann, Darleen threw herself in his way.

Wendy didn't say another word. She just kept slapping.

The crisp sound of palms hitting flesh echoed one after another, drawing a crowd of onlookers.

Wendy had always been gentle and poised. Even when her own husband had an affair, she had never lowered herself to slap the other woman.
