Chapter 295
But Lainey didn’t see it that way. All she heard in Theodore’s words was pure intimidation, and her hatred for him deepened another layer Meanwhile, on the third floor, Barbara had just returned to her room when she heard someone outside her door. “Barbara, open up”
Barbara walked over and opened the door. There stood Jayden, holding a breakfast tray. She couldn’t help but smile. “Bringing me breakfast?”
Jayden stared at her eyes, which looked completely normal, and asked, “Barbara, you haven’t been crying?”
“Why would I cry? I’m secretly thrilled. Come in, you little fool.”
As Jayden walked in,
ked in, he asked, “So everything you just said to Mom downstairs was fake?”
Barbara closed the door behind him. “Hall and half. If I hadn’t put on that show, would Mom have cooled down so quickly?”
Jayden looked up at her. “Barbara, I think you’ve changed,”
“What?”
“But I can’t put my finger on it”
Barbara shook her head with amusement. “That’s why you’re still a little fool.”
“I am noti” Jayden shot back. “Don’t think you’re the only one who can help Eliana. Someday I’ll be man enough to protect her myself!”
Barbara saw her former self in Jayden–always charging ahead recklessly on pure impulse,
She’d already tasted the bitter consequences of being reckless. She would never give Anthony another chance to throw her out of this house.
That evening, Anthony walked through the front door and was immediately greeted by Lainey’s anxious questioning. “Anthony, how did it go? Is Delilah okay?”
Anthony shook his head, then asked sharply, “Where’s Barbie?”
Seeing his expression turn stone–cold, Lainey quickly tried to smooth things over. “Anthony, listen, Barbie only went after Delilah because of
Me
She continued, “She saw Delilah throw coffee at me when she was little, so don’t be too hard on your sister, okay? You’re smart enough to figure out how to get back on Delilah’s good side.”
Anthony pressed two fingers against his forehead, Barbara was still his sister–he couldn’t just deal with her like he would anyone else. “Yeah, I’ve got a way. Marcus is still waiting for the board to approve the company’s joint bid with Wren Group for the Deepcove project”
“Exactly! If you can convince the board to partner with Wren Group, the whole Wren family will be grateful to you!”
Anthony let out a heavy breath. “I get it, Mom”
Lainey continued, “Oh, and the prison visit is coming up in a couple of days. Anthony, don’t go to work that day, okay? I want to take you, Barbie, and Jayden to see your father together.”

Anthony nodded. “I know. We only get to see bad once a year. I won’t miss it”
Two days later, Stanley placed the contracts on Theodore’s desk at the Russell Group offices and reported, “Mr. Russell, Mr. Anthony didn’t come to work today.”
Theodore looked up. “Did he go to one of the branch offices?”
“Apparently not,” Stanley replied.
Theodore frowned. “What’s today’s date?”
“The 1st.”
Theodore’s gaze froze. He suddenly remembered–today was Logan’s visiting day.
After a moment of thought, he said, “These contracts can wait untill get back.”
“Yes, sir.”
At Starlight Media, Eliana had just returned from the restroom when a colleague said, “Ellie, your phone was ringing!”
“Oh, thanks!” Uliana returned to her desk and saw Theodore’s name on the screen. She quickly swiped to answer. “Hello, Theodore?”
His voice came through calm and steady. “Could you spare some time to come with me to see someone?”
“Who?” she asked without thinking.
“My father.”
A guard’s voice echoed down the corridor at the suburban prison. “Mr. Logan Russell, visitor time. Your wife and kids are here
A middle–aged man with graying temples looked up from his book, setting it aside. The prison uniform hung loose on his frame, “Got it,” he said simply. The guard unlocked his cell and gestured for him to follow.
Logan walked behind the officer into the visiting room. Through the reinforced glass, he could see Lainey, Anthony, Barbara, and Jayden all watching him with barely contained excitement
It had been a whole year since they’d seen each other.
Logan took his seat and picked up the phone from behind the partition.
Lainey immediately grabbed her receiver, pressing it to her ear. “Honey, nobody’s been giving you trouble in there, right?”
“I’ve got my own cell. It’s quiet enough,” Logan replied.
“Good.” Lainey felt a wave of relief. All those yearly bribes to keep him safe had been worth it.
Logan’s gaze shifted to Jayden. “Jayden’s gotten so tall!”
“Yeah, I make him drink milk every day. He’s built like a little bull now.” Lainey laughed as she held the microphone up to Jayden’s mouth

“Come on, say

Jayden looked at Logan and called out loudly, “Daddy!”
Logan nodded, then turned to Barbara.
“Barbie’s a
