Chapter 309
Chapter 309
Barbara quickly buried her face in Theodore’s chest, clutching his coat. ‘Theodore’s embrace is so warm, she thought.
The four men chopped off their fingers, and soon their screams filled the air.
Julian turned to Theodore. “Does this work for you?”
“Hmm. We’re even now.” Theodore patted Barbara’s shoulder. “Let’s go home.”
But Barbara suddenly looked up. “Theodore, I still have questions for them.”
Theodore nodded. “Go ahead.”
Barbara turned around, trying not to look at the severed fingers and blood on the floor. “Who hired you to slash my face?”
“Oh? So there’s someone behind this?” Julian glanced at Theodore with a half–smile. “Did you tick someone off again?”
Theodore replied, “I cross people all the time. If they’ve got the guts, they can come to me directly.”
Julian let out a snort, then looked at the four men on the ground. “Well? Aren’t you going to talk?”
Jamal, gritting through the pain, said, “Mr. Black, a few days back, a woman named Janice sent us a photo. She told us to go to Riverhood High School, find Ms. Russell, and slice her face when we got the chance.
“That bitch lied to us. She said Ms. Russell was just some ordinary person with no background and had crossed someone else, and that person was willing to pay 30,000 dollars to teach Ms. Russell a lesson.
“We took the job because the money came easily. But we never met whoever’s behind Janice.”
Julian narrowed his eyes. “Call Janice right now. Tell her you’ve got Ms. Russell, and get her to come here to check on things herself.”
“Yes, sir.” Jamal hurried to make the call, pretending everything was fine to trick Janice into coming.
About half an hour later, a woman in a low–cut short dress walked in, looking excited. But her smile froze the second she saw what was in
front of her.
Jamal lunged forward, grabbing Janice as she tried to run and yanking her back. “You bitch! You lied to me.”
“Wait. No need to rush into anything till we get answers.” Julian’s words settled the scene. He then looked at Barbara. “Ask.”
Barbara turned to the trembling Janice. “Tell me. Who told you to get them to slash my face?”
“Ms. Russell, it was Delilah who made me do it.” With Janice at their mercy, she didn’t dare hold back.
At that, Barbara’s head snapped to Theodore. “Theodore, it was her!”
Theodore’s gaze darkened. “I’ll remember this.”
“Since things are settled, I’ll take my leave.” Julian glanced at his men. “Back to the casino.”
As for the four men and Janice, Julian didn’t care one bit.
Watching Julian walk away, Barbara suddenly looked up at Theodore. “Theodore, can I go thank your friend?”

Theodore had other things to take care of, so he nodded. “Go ahead.”
Barbara rushed out right away.
Meanwhile, Janice was being cursed at and beaten by the four men.
After a while, a woman’s bloodied hand stretched through the gap, trembling as it grabbed Theodore’s pant leg.
Janice, barely conscious, gasped, “Mr. Russell, please… help me…”
Theodore looked down at her. “I can help you, but you have to do something for me.”
Janice’s breath grew faint. “I’d… I’d do anything you say.”
Theodore said, “Just tell Delilah that Barbara’s been disfigured. Keep everything else to yourself.”
At the same time, seeing Julian get into his car, Barbara hurried over and held the door. “Mr. Black, wait.”
Julian raised an eyebrow. “Something else?”
Barbara said, “I came to thank you.”
“Thank me?”
“Yes. Thank you for saving me.”
“I saved you because I owed your brother a favor.”

If he hadn’t changed the time of the underground auction at the last minute, leading to Hannah being humiliated, Theodore wouldn’t have
had to answer to Eliana.
So, he’d agreed to help only to even things out with Theodore.
But Barbara knew none of this. All she knew was that Julian had appeared like a godsend when she needed help the most. At that moment, his presence even outshone Theodore’s.
“Mr. Black, could I get your contact information?” Barbara asked earnestly.
At that, Julian finally looked at her properly, asking in a playful, casual tone, “You aren’t developing a crush on me, are you?”
Barbara blushed, unable to take his teasing.
Seeing that, Julian, who’d only been joking, suddenly felt a bit stuck. “have no interest in minors.”
Barbara, finding his words more and more absurd/couldn’t help but deny it. “That’s not what I mean!”
Julian nodded. “Good. I’m not a good guy, you know.”
But Barbara insisted, “You are. You saved me.”
Julian lifted a hand, signaling his men to close the door.
But Barbara still held onto it. “Mr. Black, are you not giving me your contact info because I’m not a customer? Then, can I come to your casino another day?”
Julian sounded amused. “A straight–A student from Riverhood High School wants to come to my casino?”
