Leaving You Bereft (Willow and Julian) novel Chapter 269

At the southern suburbs of Brindley, golden lights danced across the surface of the lake as an unseen union took place.

A heart-shaped floating lantern bobbed along the ripples of the lake. Willow stood on the shore and watched as it floated further and further away to a place that nobody knew the name of.

She believed that Grace was at that place.

"Grandma, it's me, Willow. I'm back.

"I went to Stem Alley and checked on the place we used to stay. Skyscrapers stood in its place now, and things hadn't looked the same long ago, but the 100-year-old maidenhair tree was still where it had always been, tall and proud.

"Our place is right in front of it. I ordered beef stew on the same streets, but no one can beat your cooking.

"Grandma, Landon and Gabriella have grown a lot, and I got pregnant again for Landon's sake. My new baby has a name, and it's Evelyn Ziegler.

"I miss you deeply, Grandma."

Willow stood by the side of the lake for a long time. She didn't turn around until snow fell from the sky.

Then, Julian came into view. He was still wearing a black outfit, and his gaze was forlorn and filled with sorrow.

Moments later, he walked over and embraced her. His voice sounded a little hoarse. "It's cold at night. Let's go home."

Willow clung to his arm and raised her head to look at the snowflakes. She zoned out a little and murmured, "Julian, do you think souls exist?"

He had no answers for that. All he knew was that he would forever owe her.

Once they were back at the villa, Julian led Willow upstairs and told the maid to get a bowl of hot soup ready.

On the second floor, fine snowflakes drifted down outside the floor-to-ceiling window while the bedroom was as warm and cozy as it would be in spring.

Today wasn't like any other day. It was clear that Willow was in a gloomy mood, as evidenced by her silence.

He picked himself up, pressed his face against her belly, and listened carefully through the sweater.

Willow's fingers trembled slightly as she closed them on Julian's cheeks. Her voice was also very shaky when she spoke.

"Julian, you're such an idiot. I've only been pregnant for a little over a month. What do you think you're going to hear?"

Julian raised his head and looked at her intently. His eyes were brimming with love that he couldn't have concealed if he wanted to.

Willow couldn't help but tremble uncontrollably. She wasn't made of stone, after all.

Neither Willow nor Julian brought this up again, but he secretly held on to a wish. He longed to get back together with her, become a married couple, and raise kids with her again.

In the past, he thought sex and heirs were the only things that mattered in a marriage.
