Leaving the Wrong Love Behind Forever novel Chapter 62

"Daddy, you're so kind, I love you so much." Elaine rushed into his arms and acted like a spoiled child.

She really liked Daddy so much, even more than she liked Mommy.

Daddy was handsome and kind, and he cared about her. She loved Daddy so much!

Arthur grinned and gently kissed her forehead. "Time for bed, sweetheart. You have kindergarten tomorrow."

"Daddy, can you please tell me the story of Snow White?" She nestled in her quilt, gripping his hand, her voice as soft as a gentle breeze.

He smiled warmly. "Sure, close your eyes, and I'll start."

-- --

It was nighttime, and a crescent moon cast a gentle glow into the study from the horizon.

Arthur sat at his desk, engrossed in correcting documents, yet an unexplained heaviness settled over him. Images of Sylvia's face flashed through his mind.

As he focused on the computer screen, the door suddenly creaked open.

"Arthur?" Sheryl swayed her hips, entered with delicate steps, and spoke softly.

He glanced at the computer and replied, "Humm."

"Arthur, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been so harsh with Hendrick today. I was in a bad mood, and I hope you can forgive me. I didn't mean to act that way," she said with a touch of vulnerability.

She had just stepped out of the shower, a subtle scent of orange blossoms clinging to her skin – precisely the fragrance that Arthur favoured.

As he took a sniff and looked up, Arthur's expression underwent a noticeable shift.

She collided with the desk, a sharp pain altering the colour of her face. Yet, what pained her even more was Arthur's refusal to embrace her.

"Arthur, why are you doing this? Don't you like me? Don't you want to marry me?"

After a moment of silence, he spoke with warmth, "Sheryl, if you continue to be patient with Hendrick, take good care of the children, keep them safe and sound, I will marry you as soon as possible. I'll give you the name, the fame, and the fortune you desire."

Sheryl blinked, her large tearful eyes maintaining a calm expression, though a hidden joy danced in her heart.

Her mother's advice seemed accurate. A man, she thought, couldn't resist temptation. Yet, she wasn't willing to let it go. She desired not only his power but the entirety of him. After all, she had loved him for so many years.

"Arthur, considering we're on the verge of marriage, can't we be as intimate as other couples in the world? Why are you keeping your distance from me?"

She embraced him once more, tears streaming down her face. Her fingers traced over his firm abs, fingertips venturing downward.
