Leaving the Wrong Love Behind Forever novel Chapter 19

Maxwell grabbed her hand, pinning her against the wall, forcefully attempting to kiss her.

"Alison, that's not true. I really love you. I don't like Bella anymore—I'll never contact her again. Please believe me? Give me one more chance, and I'll show you how sincere I am."

Slap!

Alison delivered a sharp slap to his face, then employed a defensive move he had once taught her, kicking him right where his wounds were.

"I don't need it anymore. I don't want you anymore, Maxwell."

"Hss." He bit down on his pain, trying to suppress it.

But in that brief moment, she opened the door and rushed into the arms of the person waiting outside.

Arthur held Alison tightly, concern written all over his face.

"Alison, are you okay?"

She shook her head. "I'm fine. Let's go."

Arthur didn't say more, but he looked back at Maxwell, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly, forming a plan in his mind.

If marriage wasn't enough to make Maxwell give up, then something more was needed.

Maxwell tried to follow them despite his pain, but the doctor arriving for rounds stopped him.

Watching Alison's figure disappear, his strength seemed to leave him as he sat on the hospital bed, allowing the doctor to treat his wounds.

During his hospital stay, Maxwell watched Alison and Arthur spend several days in apparent bliss.

Various "accidents" kept preventing him from approaching her.

Sometimes someone would accidentally bump into him, aggravating his injuries.

Other times, they just seemed to miss each other—as if the universe itself was conspiring against him.

But he knew better. It was Arthur.

"Bella? It's you?"

The delight and admiration in his eyes instantly transformed into disappointment and an indescribable revulsion.

"Who told you to dress like this? Why are you imitating Alison?"

Bella paused, then smiled gently, though there was an unmistakable bitterness in her expression.

"Maxwell, see? You mistook me for her. Doesn't that prove I've succeeded in my imitation? If you like her this way, why can't you try to like me a little more? I can love you just as she did. Maxwell, please give up on her?"

Her hand snaked up to his shoulder like a water serpent, leaning in to place a kiss on his lips.

However, in that moment of distraction, Maxwell caught sight of Alison's cold, distant gaze as she walked in their direction.

Instantly, he came to his senses and roughly pushed Bella to the ground just before the kiss connected.

"You look nothing like her, not even when you're imitating her! She's the only one I want!"
