Leaving the Wrong Love Behind Forever novel Chapter 20

Bella sat on the ground, her face drained of color, looking thoroughly humiliated.

Her wig had fallen off, making her resemble Cinderella without her glass slipper.

Maxwell didn't even notice her disheveled state, instinctively calling out: "Alison."

However, Alison didn't spare him a glance, walking past him to take Arthur's hand.

"Have you been waiting long?"

She asked with a touch of apology.

Arthur shook his head, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly.

"Not long. For you, no wait is too long."

Despite his words, he intertwined their fingers in an intimate gesture.

Seeing this, Maxwell's expression darkened. Abandoning Bella on the ground, he strode toward Alison.

"Alison, I'm sorry. I came today to formally apologize. These are all your favorite flowers. I remember everything you love. I was wrong before, but I don't love Bella anymore. Did you see that?"

Before Alison could refuse, Arthur stepped in front of her, answering on her behalf:

"Maxwell, no one fails to recognize the person they truly love. Admit it—you never loved Alison enough. Otherwise, how could you mistake Bella for her?"

"She doesn't even imitate her well. The way she walks, her small gestures, her expressions—none of it resembles Alison."

These words drained the blood from Maxwell's face. His lips trembled several times, but he couldn't form a response.

He wanted to refute Arthur but didn't know how.

Because he had, in fact, mistaken someone for Alison.

Replaying the scene in his mind, he realized Bella's imitation was indeed poor, capturing only surface details, her movements awkward and exaggerated.

He couldn't allow it!

He quickly interjected: "Arthur, stop joking. I've been with Alison for seven years. I know her so well. Yes, I made a mistake earlier, but that was only because we've been apart. But you—why do you know her so well?"

"Could you possibly have pieced together all of Alison's personal habits just from what I shared with our friends? Is this all some plan between you and Bella? Did you investigate Alison beforehand?"

These questions raised doubts in Alison's mind.

Arthur glanced at Bella with evident distaste, dismissing her completely.

"As everyone knows, Bella and I don't get along. Second, if it weren't for you, Alison and I might have been together long ago."

"I originally didn't want to share my history with Alison here, afraid you might get jealous. But now, I've changed my mind."

His contemptuous gaze toward Maxwell softened instantly when he looked at Alison.
