"Remember, I have only one requirement—preserve all the original data on the phone."
Maxwell gripped his assistant's sleeve anxiously, his voice harsh.
The assistant nodded repeatedly, assuring him he understood.
That night, sleep eluded him completely.
Without Alison's presence beside him, even falling asleep seemed impossible.
Following his instincts, he quietly left his room and made his way to Arthur's VIP hospital room.
Through the glass panel in the door, he saw the two occupants inside.
Two people lay on the spacious hospital bed.
Arthur was awake, gazing down at the woman in his arms with tenderness—a look Maxwell had never seen on him before.
Alison rested against him, her expression relaxed, her features serene.
Maxwell stood frozen in place, while Arthur shot him a challenging look, his eyes filled with unmistakable warning.
As if saying, Alison is mine now.
Just then, Arthur deliberately placed a kiss on Alison's forehead, his eyes tender and devoted.
The scene was far more devastating in person than in any photograph.
Maxwell didn't know how long he stood outside the room until a nurse doing rounds passed by.
"Sir, which room are you from? Why are you standing here? Your wounds have reopened—don't you feel it? Let me take you back and change your bandages."
He mechanically gave his room number and followed the nurse, his mind elsewhere.
He knew Arthur had done this deliberately.
He wanted Maxwell to witness this scene, wanted to provoke him, wanted him to give up.
But Maxwell refused to give Arthur the satisfaction!
His chin rested in the crook of her neck, close enough that she could hear his heartbeat clearly.
Too close. This wasn't appropriate.
Just as this thought crossed her mind, a few cool tears dampened her neck, making her involuntarily shiver.
Yet Alison felt no sympathy. Instead, she found the situation almost laughable.
"Maxwell, if you're that desperate, go find Bella. Don't try to seduce me—I'm not interested. Besides, I find it repulsive."
"And if your apology is this insincere, then our relationship was a joke all along."
She coldly withdrew her hand, mercilessly pushing him away, her eyes clear and resolute.
"Maxwell, I'm married now. I won't forgive you. Why not be with Bella, since you like her? You seemed to do just fine without me when you were with her. You don't need me, and I don't need you. Can't we just end it here?"
With that, Alison turned to open the door.
