Leaving the Wrong Love Behind Forever novel Chapter 17

Ping.

His phone suddenly vibrated. Maxwell instinctively entered Alison's birthday to unlock it, but the screen wouldn't open.

Then he remembered—recently, Bella had pouted and demanded he change his password to her birthday. He hadn't thought much of it and indulgently let her have her way.

But now, the lock screen password seemed to mock how shallow his love for Alison had become.

His fingertips felt as if they'd been burned. He quickly changed the password back to Alison's birthday.

As if somehow, this could return them to how they once were.

Then he opened his messages and saw several photos Arthur had sent.

In the first photo, Alison was sleeping with her head resting on the edge of the hospital bed. There were slight dark circles under her eyes, but her face showed no signs of distress.

In the second photo, Arthur had lifted her onto the bed. She slept in his arms, their fingers intertwined in intimate closeness.

As he scrolled down, there were more photos: Alison tending to Arthur's wounds, feeding him, helping him with work...

Each image displayed their intimacy.

The warm atmosphere in the photos stabbed at Maxwell's eyes. His grip on the phone tightened until his knuckles turned white, as if he wanted to crush the device and make the images disappear forever.

Just then, his finger accidentally touched the screen, opening Arthur's social media profile. The most recent post showed their marriage certificates side by side, with a simple caption: "It's you."

Countless mutual friends had liked and commented.

"Congratulations to Arthur and Alison! Never thought Arthur would be the first among us to get married. Wishing you both lifelong happiness!"

"So this is what Arthur has been busy with! No wonder he hasn't been joining our gatherings. When do we get to meet the lucky lady?"

"Arthur Bridgewater, the man of steel, finally falling in love? Never thought I'd see the day! What kind of woman could possibly capture your heart? I'm dying to meet her."

With a loud crash, he hurled his phone against the wall with all his strength. The screen immediately went black.

Only then did he realize, too late, that the phone contained countless photos of him and Alison.

He frantically picked up the broken device, repeatedly trying to turn it on, but to no avail.

"The photos... I need to keep them!"

Maxwell muttered desperately, his entire demeanor radiating desolation.

His violent movement had reopened some of his wounds. Fresh blood seeped through his hospital gown, staining it red.

But he couldn't care less about his injuries. His only thought was to preserve all the photos on his phone.

He called for his bodyguard, requested a backup phone, and sent the damaged one for repair.
