"I'm sorry. I admit I had feelings for you, but that's over now. I can't be with you, and I won't."
"I will only ever belong to Alison, and she will be my only wife. That wedding... let's pretend it never happened. Bella, you're young, you'll meet many more—"
Maxwell's voice was quiet as he lowered his eyes.
"No! I'll never find anyone who makes my heart race like you do, Maxwell!"
Bella threw herself into his arms, tightly wrapping around his waist, stubbornly insisting.
Her eyes darkened with resolve, as if she'd made a difficult decision.
"Maxwell, you want to win Alison back, don't you? After loving each other for so many years, she can't have completely let go of you."
"What if... what if I help you? I'll be your tool. If you're good to me, Alison will get jealous when she sees it. Then I'll explain that there's nothing between us..."
Before she could finish, Bella was roughly pushed away by Maxwell.
"Bella! I won't do anything inappropriate anymore, and I certainly won't be good to you!"
"I don't want to make Alison jealous or cause any more misunderstandings! This ends now."
His expression was cold as ice, his attitude completely detached.
Even as the girl before him cried pitifully, he felt no sympathy, merely looking away to gaze out the window.
He let Bella sob.
He knew Alison's personality all too well. Once she decided on something, no one could change her mind.
She had decided to stop loving him, withdrawing all her affection.
How could she possibly get jealous over Bella now?
If jealousy were enough, hadn't she experienced plenty already?
Maxwell laughed bitterly, finally recognizing the absurdity of his own arrogance.
He had foolishly believed he could indulge himself just once without Alison finding out. And even if she did discover the truth, she would never leave him.
Now, reality had delivered a harsh slap to his face.
"Yes, sir!"
The bodyguards surrounded Bella and, despite her struggles, forced her into a car.
Seeing his resolute gaze, the despair in her heart nearly consumed her.
"Maxwell!"
No matter how she called his name, her fate of being removed was sealed.
The room fell silent, and Maxwell finally had time to sort through his chaotic thoughts.
He knew with certainty that he loved Alison.
He couldn't possibly give up. So what if she was married? She could only be his!
Her marriage to Arthur was surely just an impulsive decision. If he sincerely apologized, she would eventually return to him!
That's what Maxwell desperately wanted to believe.
