The mansion felt livelier that morning. Especially since Naomi had returned home after her vacation with the Callister family.
Unfortunately, that was not the case for Lydia, as Naomi had been given a special task. While Cale was working, Naomi was almost always around Lydia. Cale continued to worry about Lydia’s condition and asked Naomi to keep an eye on her.
Of course, Naomi was happy with the task. But this time, Lydia did something herself. She woke up early and walked toward the kitchen with the simple intention of making breakfast for herself and Naomi. She had only taken a few steps when Naomi’s voice came from behind her.
“Where are you going?”
Lydia turned around with a smile. “To the kitchen.”
“What for?” Naomi quickly followed her.
“I want to make breakfast.”
Naomi immediately shook her head. “You don’t need to. Just call a maid.”
“I just want to make something simple.”
Naomi looked at her for a few seconds before finally following her. “Then I’ll keep you company.”
Lydia chuckled softly. “I’m only making eggs.”
“I’m still going to keep you company.”
Lydia looked at Naomi in disbelief. “I think the kitchen is going to be a mess this morning because you’re keeping me company.”
“How could it be?” Naomi clicked her tongue in annoyance. “I don’t care if you forbid me. I just want to keep you company while you make breakfast.”
Hearing that answer, Lydia could not hold back her smile. It felt strange yet heartwarming to see the people around her become so attentive ever since she became pregnant. But just as she opened the cabinet, someone’s footsteps could be heard coming from the dining room. Cale appeared in his neatly arranged work clothes and immediately noticed Lydia standing in front of the kitchen counter.
“What are you doing?”
Lydia raised an eyebrow. “Making breakfast.”
Cale looked at Naomi.
Naomi immediately raised both hands. “I already tried to stop her, Mr. Miller.”
Lydia looked at the two of them in turn. “You two are being ridiculous.”
Cale walked closer and took the item Lydia was about to lift. “You can ask the maid to do it.”
“I was only getting a bowl.”
“I know.”
Both Naomi and Cale visibly sighed in relief. Lydia could only shake her head in bewilderment at the two of them.
As soon as Cale’s car left the driveway, Lydia returned inside with Naomi. She then picked up her phone and sent a message to Althea and Riana. She told them about their breakfast that morning, Cale’s excessive concern, and even how Naomi was now keeping an eye on her almost all day. Not long afterward, the replies began to come in.
Lydia smiled to herself as she read the messages. She felt incredibly lucky. Not only because she was carrying the child they had been waiting for so long, but because for the first time, she truly knew what it felt like to be someone who was deeply loved and cared for.
The day was supposed to go on as usual, but ever since Cale left, Naomi had already sensed that something was different about Lydia. Lydia’s face looked paler, and several times she stopped just to take a deep breath.
Lydia tried to regard it as something normal. But when she felt uncomfortable again as noon approached, Naomi could no longer ignore it.
“Mrs. Lydia, are you feeling unwell?”
Lydia shook her head slowly. “I’m just a little uncomfortable.”
“Since when?”
“Since this morning.”
Naomi immediately reached for her phone. “I’m going to call Mr. Miller.”
Lydia quickly stopped her hand. “Don’t. He’s working.”
