HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 917

The pain came again.

At first, it had been nothing more than a dull discomfort in her lower abdomen that had appeared from time to time since the previous night. Lydia had been able to endure it. She had assumed her body was simply exhausted from lack of sleep and the relentless pressure she had been under for the past several days. But that morning, the pain became far sharper, slowly spreading until it made her catch her breath several times.

She closed her eyes for a moment as she gripped the edge of the bed.

Not now... please.

Lydia took a deep breath, trying to control the pain as it came more and more frequently. A cold sweat began to dampen her temples even though the mountain air drifting through the window was still so cool.

Several minutes passed. Instead of easing, the pain returned with even greater intensity.

Lydia gently bit her lower lip to keep herself from making a sound. She didn't want anyone in the room to know what she was going through. As long as she could still endure it, she refused to show even the slightest sign of weakness to Silas's men.

But the body could not always be controlled.

The hand that had been braced against the edge of the bed gradually weakened. Her vision began to blur, and she accidentally knocked over the glass of water sitting on the small table beside the bed.

Crash...

The sound of shattering glass immediately broke the silence.

A moment later, the bedroom door opened. A guard hurried inside with Jasper walking a few steps behind him. Jasper had just escorted a woman, one of Silas's business associates, to the main lobby. She had asked to be taken into the city immediately. There were several matters related to Silas's business that required her attention.

The moment he entered the room where Lydia was being held, Jasper's eyes immediately fell on her. She was still sitting on the edge of the bed, clutching her abdomen.

"What happened?"

The guard shrugged. "I think Mrs. Lydia dropped the glass, sir," he said, gesturing toward the shattered glass scattered across the floor. But as he spoke, he seemed uncertain, having noticed Lydia wincing in pain while holding her abdomen.

Jasper stepped closer. The nearer he got, the more obvious it became that Lydia's face was far paler than it had been just a few hours earlier. "Are you in pain?"
