Seeing that, Naomi couldn't hold back a faint smile. That small change did not escape Lydia's notice.
She chose to sit on the sofa across from them while enjoying her warm tea. Her gaze shifted back and forth between Chris and Naomi. She didn't know when it had started, but the family room, which had always been so peaceful, was now almost always filled with the sound of the two of them bickering.
And strangely...
The house felt far more alive.
"Were you satisfied with today's campus visit?" Chris asked after a moment.
Naomi's eyes immediately lit up. "Yes." Without realizing it, she reopened all the brochures she had brought with her. "Westbridge has the most complete research facilities. Just like you said yesterday, it has so many advantages over the other universities."
"So, you've decided to go there?"
"Yes." Naomi nodded enthusiastically. "I like the atmosphere there too."
Naomi went on talking without realizing it. Every now and then, her hands moved as she explained the layout of the laboratories, the library, and the small garden connecting the faculty buildings. Her enthusiasm flowed naturally, something she had never shown before since the first day she moved into the Miller mansion.
Lydia quietly watched as Naomi continued speaking at length about the laboratories, professors, teaching system, and the university's various student research programs. Ever since they had come to know each other, this was the first time Lydia had seen Naomi talk for so long about something she genuinely loved.
And Chris didn't mind responding to everything Naomi said. Watching the change in the man's expression, Lydia simply smiled to herself.
She said nothing.
Because in her opinion, Chris's gaze already said it all.
By evening, after dinner was over, the mansion returned to its usual calm.
Naomi helped Lydia put away several books she had bought on campus. Chris had just finished returning all the partnership documents to Cale's study. When they finally crossed paths again in the second-floor hallway, Chris let out a long breath.
"I'm going back to Sun City tomorrow."
Naomi's steps did stop, but only for a moment. She immediately forced herself to keep walking as though those words didn't mean much. Even though, since that morning, she had been trying not to think about the fact that today was Chris's last day in Carrington Bay.
But hearing him say it again... somehow, it felt different.
Far more real.
"Oh." That was the only response that left Naomi's lips.
Chris studied her face for a moment. "You're not even going to tell me not to go?"
