"Come in," Cale said without looking up.

Daniel appeared in the doorway. The expression on his face immediately drew Cale's full attention. The bodyguard usually looked calm and composed. That was precisely why even the slightest change in his expression was enough to put Cale on alert.

"Is there a problem?" Cale asked, immediately straightening in his chair.

Daniel hesitated for a fraction of a second before finally speaking. "I've lost track of them, Mr. Cale."

Those words caused Cale's fingers, which had been about to type, to stop moving instantly. The room suddenly felt much quieter.

"What do you mean?" Cale asked, his voice lowering.

"Around forty minutes ago, Mr. Chris seemed to realize I was there," Daniel reported with a regretful tone. "They disappeared from the university parking area and appear to have gone to one of the cafés connected to the shopping center in the northern district."

Cale chose to process Daniel's report first before saying anything.

"I kept the safe distance you instructed me to maintain. But... I lost them. I'm very sorry, sir," Daniel said with his head lowered. He did not dare meet Cale's eyes because of his failure.
