You act based on your instinctive calculations, and you hate it when things move beyond your control. That major suits you because it can tame your stubborn nature."

Naomi stood there in silence, unable to argue. Beneath her irritation at having her personality laid bare so casually, she quietly tucked Chris's words away in her mind. It turned out this man paid far more attention to her than she had ever imagined.

By lunchtime, Chris took Naomi to a quiet little restaurant near the second university. Naomi's thoughts were still lingering on the brochures and their earlier debate, causing her to ignore the meal that had just been served by the waiter.

After several minutes, Naomi finally set down her brochure and frowned at the plate in front of her. "That's strange. Didn't I order the salmon?"

Chris, seated across from her, was casually cutting into his steak. "You don't like salmon, Naomi."

Naomi looked at the plate now holding chicken steak, then glanced at Chris's plate, which contained the salmon she had originally ordered. "You switched them?"

"You've been daydreaming this whole time and wouldn't have realized the plate was wrong until after you'd taken a bite," Chris replied without looking up.

"But how did you know I don't like salmon?" Naomi asked in confusion.

"You spent a full five minutes complaining about the fishy smell of salmon when we went camping the other day. Did you forget?" Chris looked directly at her.

Naomi froze. She had already forgotten that small complaint, but Chris remembered it perfectly. Small, natural gestures of attentiveness like this were exactly what made her heart beat a little faster. She quickly lowered her head, took a bite of her food, and pretended to be busy reading the brochure again to hide her awkwardness.

Chris noticed the change in her behavior, but he chose to let Naomi enjoy her meal in peace.
